Sharon won the WMOC sprint final in W65A today! Congratulations to her for another fine performance. Sharon came from behind when one of her competitors had an error on the third control from the end. Sharon won by 41 seconds.

Other US performances: Pavlina Brautigam 7th in W50A, Joe Brautigam 11th in M50A, Mary Jo Childs 19th in W60A. Many other US runners were in the A finals today.

Did you notice how many disq there were, especially 10/60 in M45-A? They must have been doing some heavy duty enforcement.

Sharon was steady, steady, and more steady, as usual, while the women in the lead with two controls to go made a 4 minute error, dropping from 1st to 7th. Ouch!

Evalin B. was 3rd in W-16 in the open events, but her class was canceled, most likely because they handed out the wrong control descriptions, after the map had been changed at the last minute.

Does anyone have WMOC photos (of Sharon, in particular)?

Some USA shirts in there, but not Sharon, as far as I can tell.

But, then, I am not really conversant in FB, so I have most likely missed a bunch of stuff that is posted. :)

:). Unlike her male counterpart, Sharon knows how to stay poised/posed on the podium as well.

My heros are Rune Haraldsson and Astrid Andersson.

Yes, Rune is still going strong at 95!
Just a few years ago he actually drove his caravan all the way down to Portugal for an orienteering event...

We saw Rune finish yesterday. Pretty sprightly.

....Sharon rocks!

Indeed she does! Just don't fumble with the punch during a night-O, or pause for a cookie during an XC marathon race, with Sharon coming up from behind.... :-)

Some more great performances by USA in the long qualis at WMOC with many going through to the A final:
http://www.wmoc2013.it/live_results/result.html

A brief search yielded the following in the top 20 of their heats with several in the top 10 or even 2: Wyatt Riley, Joe Brautigam, Charlie Shahbazian, Angelica Riley, Pavlina Brautigam (2nd!!), Natalia Deconescu, Mary Jo Childs, Sharon Crawford (1st!!!).

Kudos to everyone! Rock the final!!

A valiant effort by Sharon in the long final, ending 4th in W65A. Very difficult competition. Sharon had a very successful WMOC, at or near the top on all 5 races. Congratulations!

Great Orienteering! A couple of top spots for Pavi and Sharon and then lots of other great finishes.

...ending 4th in W65A....

Thank Goodness! After winning the Sprint W65A competition, it's nice that Sharon has allowed other nations of the world a chance at the podium!

Congrats to Sharon with the win,

On that linked FB photo, on the left I see Tatyana Svistun, RUS, taking 2nd place in sprint race. I am glad to see she is doing well after returning back to St. Petersburg, after many years of futile attempts to coach o'ring to rednecks.
