Maximum 300 participants in the Middle and Long races so if you're planning to come, don't delay too long.

What's this here thing:
"National Team Fundraiser - Canada's Greatest Know-it-all TV show orienteering challenge - minimum $5"

Hammer:
It is a fundraiser event hosted by the Adventure Running X athletes in support of Canada's National team. Last summer GHO members Patrick Saile, Chris Piller and Bob Miller organized two orienteering challenges for the Discovery Channel TV program "Canada's Greatest Know-It-All". The final challenge was a 2.5km forested sprint (score-O style). Earlier this spring our Adventure Running X kids decided to race the same course to see if they could beat the TV show participants. Now they are opening up this course as training for the Orienteering Nationals and as a fundraiser for Canada's National Team.

We think this is a fun way leading up to the weekend of racing. We suggest a minimum donation to the National Team of $5, most people are donating $15-20 and we have also had one donation of $100!!!!!

If you are in Canada you can watch the Discovery Channel TV show here:

Oh you actually get to do the course! I submitted my entry too soon. :)
Is there a fixed time when this will be happening? Or do you just get the course map for fun?

Beez, you can add things to your entry online. There's a flag to let me know that's what you're doing.

Yup (great feature!), just need to know if I'd have to come down to Hamilton during the week, which would sadly be a no-go.

Not sure if you could run it for fun at another time without SI. I assume so. Hammer? Pat-hectic?

Hey Beez, the fundraiser is only available at the times mentioned here:

This is due to Canterbury Hills being private property - we're only allowed on site at those times. Sorry about that.

sherpes:
will you be offering what is sometimes called "recreational" or "map hike" for those few that don't compete? usually, it is offered only on a few easy courses, and with registration that can be done on site without per-registering. My guess: probably not, if you reach the 300 max capacity.

Bash:
Your guess is correct, Sherpes. However, we do offer pre-registration for non-competitive categories (Rec-Novice and Rec-Sport) for all the races at Nationals.

Looking for a campsite in a not too noisy area. Anyone have any feedback to share on Valens Conservation Area?

Thanks, Pat-hectic! That's what I was hoping - that we can do it during race weekend, when I'll already be there. I was worried it would be a pre-weekend activity.

So the 300 limit has been reached according to the list of registrants; can I get clarification because some of our junior community signed up after that and the registration system is still allowing that. Also, we have been encouraging US juniors to go, and most haven't signed up yet. Erin had been encouraging juniors to attend this meet because we assumed there would be a lot of competition - but if we can't sign up everyone then that doesn't really work for us...
