Who wants to plan an orienteering event around the 2017 total solar eclipse? Races would have to start before or after the eclipse, though (per US rules), so all racers have similar daylight conditions. Imagine the marketing possibilities!

It would be nice to return to those CTOC maps north of Boise.
They're scheduled for an A meet in
August 2014 but another one three years later wouldn't be a bad idea.
If I could combine an orienteering trip with a chance to see an eclipse, that would be great, but I've got zero interest in orienteering during the eclipse itself. During the eclipse, I'd be watching the eclipse.
From my perspective, given the prospects for clear skies in Wyoming, I'd say Laramie Daze, with a day off on Monday for everybody to drive to Glendo or Alliance NE (or wherever the forecast is best) for viewing, would be ideal.
Laramie sounds great. August 21 is the date we are talking about by the way (why don't more people include date and location info in the first line of discussion threads? Grumble grumble). Laramie is near the path of totality, near enough for an easy day trip to various points on the path in northern Wyoming and western Nebraska. As JJ said, the prospects for clear skies in that part of the country are probably as good or better than anywhere on the path. Too bad that school will have started by then.
As far as running during the eclipse, it doesn't get much darker than a brief heavy cloud cover, so I don't think that having a meet during the eclipse would be problematic with the rules. But I agree with JJ that I'd rather be viewing it, with the races before or after.
Ad or T-shirts: "This Laramie Daze event WILL be eclipsed!"
I think this may be the year for my trip across the Pacific for a return to Wyoming...
