Start times are now posted on the Event Registration page, https://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a31/...

No course or start time changes will be handled at this time; if you have a great need, you may submit a change request when you check in at Registration. Note, however, that M/F -21+ participants will need to pay close attention to their assigned starts and make every effort to get to the line in time, as your total time is based on your assigned start (no Start box for M/F -21+).

Meet notes/course notes/map notes, and a two-page summary of important information will be posted to the website by later today (I hope!). > https://sites.google.com/site/2013usochamps/

In order to save paper, we encourage you to read the meet notes on the website, and print only the information you need from them. Full copies will NOT be included in the packets, but a number of full copies will be available for review at Registration.

TRAVEL NOTE: For those arriving on Saturday and driving North from the Albany area (exits 1-7) and/or the Albany International Airport (exits 4-5), please be aware that construction on the Northway/I-87 bridges between exits 7 and 8 will cause some delays as three lanes drop to one northbound. For the Sunday return trip, three lanes drop to two so any delay shouldn't be noticeable. More information is on the NYS DOT webpage, https://www.dot.ny.gov/twinbridges . See http://www.511ny.org/ or call 511 for traffic conditions.

PARKING AND BUS REMINDER:
For the Sprint and Long (Friday and Sunday), parking is in a remote lot at the corner of NY 149 east and Ridge Road between Lake George and Fort Ann; enter from Ridge Road. Buses to the assembly area/Registration pavilion will be running every 15-20 minutes beginning at 11 am Friday. We suggest you bring what you need to the assembly area which is 5 miles from the parking lot.

For the Middle (Saturday), parking is at the Moreau Lake State Park main lot; the Park will collect an entrance fee of $6 per vehicle. Registration (and Trail O start) is near the parking lot. For Middle courses everyone will need to ride a bus to a remote trail head and hike about a mile (1.6 km) with 150 meters of climb. First buses leave at about 8:30 am. Give yourself plenty of time based on your fitness level!

Please note that Map Legends are NOT printed on any of the S/M/L maps. Loose Legend sheets are available at Registration.

The packet will include your bib number, the two-sided summary sheet, and SI cards for those renting them for this event. Those signed up for the dinner cruise will also have pin-style name badges to wear on the cruise, if you desire (optional). Trail O notes will be stuffed in the packets of those participants (competitive and those who indicated they are interested in the recreational course). Pins will NOT be included in the packets, but will be available at the Registration desk.

If you think this announcement is long, wait until you see the meet notes. :-) We have a lot of information to share!

I believe that parts of Moreau are open to Turkey hunting this weekend from sun-up to noon. If I am right, will we be heading into those areas? If we are, its a good idea not to wear colors associated with male turkeys. Only gobblers - males- are in season. They are pretty colorful.
Hunters will be hard to spot since full camouflage is usually used when hunting them.

Hunting is allowed in the area we will be in. FWIW, I have never seen a turkey in Moreau. The area we're in is not easily accessible to hunters (or orienteers).

Bernard:
OK. Good to hear. Although I would not underestimate the ability of hunters to get to extremely remote areas.

AOWN: I saw a turkey at Moreau today! (Also a frog and a snake, but no hunters.)

Anybody who can't tell the difference between a turkey and a human should have his gun taken away.

I saw a porcupine while picking up controls! It attempted to scurry up a tree...

The challenge is you need to take the gun away before the person has demonstated lack of turkey/human identification skills.

Maybe that should be part of the universal background check.

1) Are you a convicted felon?
2) Do you have any restraining orders against you?
3) Is this a turkey or a person?
