Is it really necessary for IOF to communicate in this way and go public with this SKI-O news? http://iof.6prog.org/wr_home.aspx
The best way to do this is to ....

What's wrong with it? The guy(s) who do the rankings need the results, it seems they don't have them (and at this point the results are very late), so they posted an explanation for why the rankings aren't done. Seems like the responsible thing to do. I see nothing inflammatory about the posting, it's not like it says, "Since the organizers of the two RUS events can't get their act together, we can't calculate the rankings."

On one hand, it is amateur hour. On the other hand, it is not exactly bad publicity because only hardcore O geeks are going to see this notice anyway.

Too bad, for a first time Bulgarian is at the top of the Ski Orienteering World.

Well, nobody was going to see it until somebody posted the info on attackpoint. Now the world knows. And now I am so disturbed, I think I will quit ski orienteering for the rest of the season. Maybe I'll have a change of heart by next December.

I too will register my disgust by not competing in a single Ski O event.

I assume whatever kofols was referring to has been removed, but there's a nice bit of snark in the updates list:

Mon 25 Mar
Added official results for RUS 15/03, RUS 18/03 (received 25th March)

Oooooh, feel the burn organisers! You gave us the information a week late! *quivers nervously*

Juffy perhaps you should try that technique when someone sends you their map for RG a week late.

Are you forgetting about Pepa's gold medal in 94 Ski-WOC?

Whoops. Just saw that there's still a little snow in the mountains. And now they have fixed the page too. So I suppose if somebody can give me a free lift up to Tahoe, I might be willing to do a little ski orienteering.

@Blegg Try to look from other perspective, not just yours

I suppose that I should except that nobody take seriously the World Ranking. IOF establish World Ranking to promote the sport but reality is that WR doesn't serve as a promotion tool. It is nothing wrong to publish this kind of news. Technically, this is the right and correct way to inform runners, coaches but from a promotional point of view this type of news gives wrong information to other parties such as media, reporters, sports leaders who are also interested in Elite orienteering. I am just saying that there should be a rule how to handle with this kind of situations. British orienteering put this in rules but hey, World Ranking doesn't need this kind of rules because World Ranking is amateur Rankings for our own pleasure and fun.

I would really want to know why IOF can't make a clear guidance for submitting of results. They produced 18p long "Guidelines for World Ranking Events" so everybody would took WRE label more seriously. Is there any obligation from them to take more seriously also a promotional tasks and give something in return for 250 eur fee.

British orienteering has a rule about that and I suppose that if this would be a WRE in GBR then we would have a funny situation. Final results would not count for British Ranking but same results would be O.K. for World Ranking. Technically nothing wrong as all we want is to go to the next race and have fun.

It just show how little IOF think about promotion, marketing and PR when it comes to Elite orienteering. Their focus is only WOC and how to get on TV and communicate with IOC. It is time for IOF to start making a better and more solid also a bottom part of the pyramid.

British orienteering rules

Do we still use RouteGadget? I've not seen a map update for a while.

Oh wait, I suddenly see the last three events up now.

Sorry Kofols, I'll try harder to get really offended about stuff next time. I'm afraid I haven't been able to muster very much angst lately. The most I can summon is some mild snark. It's probably a side effect from all this sunny spring weather in California. It's just so darn relaxing that I keep forgetting to stop enjoying life, and really focus my energy on nitpicking.
