StK66:
Good morning Rockman. A very sincere question, and please excuse my ignorance. Why do competitors choose to claim their splits? Is claiming your splits a necessary part of using Goutegadget? Is their a Routegadget for dummies guide out there some where? In anticipation, thanks for any response(s) you can provide.

Thanks for uploading these Rockman.

I noticed that I didn't have to claim my splits this time. It happened automatically. I assume this is because I had claimed using the same SI card number before AND had ticked the 'going' box in your AP event ?

I've just drawn my headless chicken run, so should provide a good laugh for those who look at it!

StK66,
Routegadget & AP use the same splits results & course files.

AP splits makes a link between your AP username, and your name & SI stick number in the event splits file . After you have "claimed" splits for one event, any results for other events loaded to AP that have the same details will also be linked to you. AP uses the course file to calculate leg lengths & so km rates for analysis.

Routegadget lists the splits for all competitors and shows the courses on an image of the map. If you want to show your individual route (either manually drawn or from GPS) you have to enter that yourself. Competitor's speed on a manually drawn route is averaged out over each leg, GPS routes are updated every 3 seconds so show the variations in speed along a leg that the GPS has captured.

There are some help notes on the RG map event page, but I will send you some more details ( or see me next week)

To claim splits click on the '?' next to your name and follow instructions.

RouteGadget for dummies Vol.1 & Vol.2
I'm sure there are Aussie versions that exists someone might link.

Delyn's links are more comprehensive than my instructions - the only additions are:
- I try to always georeference the map-images, so that GPS tracks load with minimum need for adjustment
- there is usually a dummy competitor called "Clock - GPS" who can be added to the animation, & gets to go around a 60 minute clock-face without visiting any controls ( actually a pseudo-GPS track). This may or may not align with event time, depending on the event set-up, but is good for mass-starts.

O-ing:
Hi StK66. You have two weeks to claim splits from the date of the event. When you do
* the event will actually appear in your log, so you don't have to go searching for it
*you only have to claim splits once (per SI tag used)
*Under your username you will get a list of all events where you have used that SI tag
* you have access to the "comment" page and analysis tools - so you can track and see if you keep making the same types of errors
* if you upload a GPS track then a little world icon will appear on the splits page
* then you can compare tracks with anyone else who has also uploaded GPS on the same course
* Note - your time on the GPS track has to be within 6 seconds of the recorded split time otherwise AP won't recognise it
* you can use "GPS editor" a free download to edit the track to just start-finish (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Editing_GPX_Tra...)
