Hi, I was wondering if somebody knows if in Columbus, Ohio is some working orienteering club? I am 24 years student from Czech Republic and I just moved to Columbus. In the past I did a lot orienteering and mtbo in summer and ski-o in winter. I would like to try orienteering in USA too and meet new people. Thank you for all answers:) Michaela

Hi Michaela. Welcome to the midwest. Closest to you is the Miami River Orienteering Club (MVOC) that has five meets scheduled this spring, beginning in about a month.

Alternatively if you feel like driving, are the Northeast Ohio O Club (NEOOC), and the Cincinnati O Club (OCIN)...both of which have more expansive schedules than MVOC. OCIN will host a huge national meet on good maps on the first weekend in April. But unfortunately, the club in Columbus has a limited schedule this spring.

Hi, Michaela!
There will be a national meet in Indiana in April, the "Flying Pig"; I hope you can come; it is not super far away.

I'd suggest contacting COO members with regards to car-pooling to A-meets. Several of their members do travel. I don't know if any are AP regulars.

Orienteering Cincinnati (OCIN) is by far the most active club nearby and most of our events are about 2 hours drive from Columbus. Dayton (MVOC) has about one event per month, usually decent quality. The Columbus club (COO) is going through some transition right now and could really sue some help with mapping, course setting, and event organizing. Their schedule is pretty light and tends to be last-minute. Let me know if you have any interest in mapping or course setting and I can put you in touch. And feel free to email me about any other OCIN or MVOC events or travel to larger events. We have a very active group in the Cincinnati area.

Mike is right that OCIN is the big dog near you. Still, we'd welcome you up here in NorthEast Ohio at NEOOC, about 2 hours north of Columbus.

@Guy, COO was linked to in the first reply (by ctc) but not mentioned by name. See the "club" link...

RJM, true, NEOOC also has lots of good events. Didn't mean to leave you out. I always think of Cleveland as being a bit farther from Coilumbus than Cincinnati, but many of your events are south of the city toward Akron, so travel time probably does end up being about the same for a typical event.

SMOC is about three hours away and you can probably carpool with Alison. :)

For ski-o, you should definitely get in touch with AliC now living in Toledo. She has been spending a lot of time trying to find snow and is now heading to Ski-O WOC in Kaz.
