Just got off the phone with Marc, and he said Leif qualified for the A FINAL in the middle distance today! I saw some results online, but don't know how many get into the A final. In anycase, he was 17th in his heat! Way to go Leif!! It looks like everyone had decent runs, but the times where mess up in the results, so I don't actually know how they did other then their placement!
John F. 31th
Martin H-T. 48th
Robert P. 44th
Will E. 47th
Siobhan F. 32nd.
Viktoria B. 28th
Sarah K. 43rd.
Way to go team!

Top 20 in each heat make the A final.
Congratulations to everyone. Good luck in the A Final Leif !!
Congrats to everyone and way to go Leif...good luck in the A Final!
There is a John Fredriksson on the Swedish team... interesting.
Welcome to the best, Leif... way to go! Only 15% back. And John, Viktoria, and Siobhan not too far back... looking good for the Classic!
No country put all their runners into the "A" final!
Looks like another fine result by Leif in the A final. 61 starters, he's listed as 28th out of 59 having finished. Might change a little, but excellent result!
It's official! Leif placed 30th in the A final! Great job Leif, I know during my JWOC times, no one ever made the A final in the middle, and on top of that placing in the top half is sensational!
Makes me proud to be an ... Oops, I'm not... But it is very exciting to see excellent and competitive results on the world stage. Way to go Leif, as well as the rest of the US Team!
Nice to see Australians in 3rd in W20 and 8th in M20 as welll... both of them the best results in the Middle for Australia at JWOC. In an attempt to make this American-relevant I was going to say that therefore English is the next best language to speak after Nordic, but realized y'all wouldn't admit we speak it down there. So it'll have to remain irrelevant, a burst of pride for my compatriots.
By the way, well done team USA!
Strine is to Murrican as Dansk is to Svenska.
Also a good result for Siobhan Fleming, 18th in the B final. She's been working hard at getting better, and it shows. And John Fredrickson was 32nd in the B final.
There's a good picture of Leif on the
IOF press page.
the classic is underway. looks like John F ran well, and he's in a good position 25% behind the current leader. with the best yet to start, I'd guess that could be good for a finish in the top half (or hopefully top third?) when it's over. Leif had posted a time around 1:43, but now he's showing as MP.

Interesting order for the photos...
Male gold
Female gold
Male bronze, then
Leif "positive surprise"
Super result!! Looks like you've made folks sit up and take notice.
Who's handling PR for team USA ??? Good job!!
Leif is back in the results. And John's time looks excellent, right now he's 13th out of 81 (174 starters!). Right behind him in the results are runners from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Switzerland!
Great job everyone!! This is an awesome sequence of results. Go USA!
Can't wait to hear the team's comments about their races this week. Some really great results.
John's still looking good, tied for 20th with 121 of 174 in. Leif is currently 55th.
Looks like John is going to end up right about 30th. Fantastic.
Looks like John F. has settled at 31st... Very well done!
Wow the winner was fast. Like 5 minutes ahead of 2nd...
Tied for 30th! The new trend for the JWOC A finals for USA men...great job guys! Good going gals as well!
Congratulations John! 32nd place out of 170 starters, this is a great result in what seems to be a tough race in the summer heat on a rocky, steep mountain.
Outstanding results by Leif and John! Congratulation and continue training hard!
This year is a great job, a significant improvement over "the usual". John's Sprint and Classic and Leif's Middle are solid international performances.
Perhaps something has been done differently in the lead-up to the event, and at the Championship itself. One can't help but notice the convincing training volumes that Leif has been posting. And an multi-week "immersion" into European orienteering with participation in major competitive events at the elite level.
Congratulations to John, Leif, and thank you to Alexey for their major breakthrough in juniors results.
Maps from the middle final and classic.
Relay today and initial results for the men look terrific. Winner was Norway in 2:30:32, an average of 50 minutes a leg, and all three legs seemed to be the same distance. John ran 63:36, Leif 55:30, and Robbie 61:29. The live results (which were far from 100% accurate in earlier events, so who knows how much they will change) put John in 38th, Leif moving up to 26th, and Robbie holding on really well to finish 28th. Note that there are 2 teams per country, 56 teams started.
Leif's run is right up there with Brian May's at WOC2004 in Sweden. And the total time (2:59:35) is only 19% behind.
Final results of the relay. Team ended up 30th, nipped by Australia by 31 seconds and not far behind France and New Zealand. And Leif's time was 54:30, vs. best overall split of 47:49.
For the women both Viktoria and Siobhan seem to have had solid performances.
Wow - steep. Nicely done!
Congratulations to the JWOC team for a very nice performance at JWOC this year. John and Leif definitely showed overall improvement. I'm very happy for Leif as this is his last year to be able to compete at JWOC. John has one more year and who knows what he will be able to accomplish with another year of training. Will and Siobhan also have one more year. As this was Will first trip to JWOC he will know what to expect for next year and how to train for it. Siobhan has been working hard at improving and I'm sure that she will continue to do so. Marty and Robbie each have two more years to go so we can watch them to improve too. This was Sarah only chance to go to JWOC and she did her best for the female team. As the new Junior team leader, I'm working with Alexei, Jeff and Clare to really get out Junior program moving in the right direction. I hope that all of you read my article is the latest ONA and will be supportive of our ideas in this new direction we are going to take for our Juniors. In a day or so I will be announcing the juniors that we are targeting for possible future JWOC teams. Juniors that with the right determination and coaching could be going to future JWOCs and showing the rest of the world that the Americans are elite orienteers. We really need coaches to work with these young people all over the country. If any of you are interested or know of someone that might be please contact me directly so that we can get these young people excited and working one on one with someone real soon.

Fine performance by all! By far the best relay results since my sons started heading to JWOC in the mid-90's. This bodes well for the continued development of the US team.
