Hello, I just made airline reservations for W. Hubsch (age 16) for the Interscholastics. He will be travelling alone. I called the Comfort Inn, Hampton and Courtyard, and they tell me that under applicable law in Kansas, you have to be 21+ to check into a hotel room. I have made reservations for him, and he will have a credit card to pay, but an adult has to check in for the room. Will's flight arrives at 11:30 pm local time on Friday night, and he will probably take a taxi from the airport, and there probably aren't going to be people milling around in the lobby to help him at that time of night. I'm wondering if anyone is willing to check in for him earlier in the evening, and then "leave a key for him" at the front desk or something like that? I will make the reservation, and pay for the room. Comfort, Hampton or Courtyard are all good. Or, he can just share a room with someone, and I'll pay for it. We can figure out the details. Help!

18-20 year olds can fight and die for their country, but can't check into a hotel room.

Yeah, we have our priorities straight...

On the serious side, I expect to be out there by Thursday, and, FWIW, I'm a night owl.

I'll also be there with kids and can assist of needed.

As a teenager I ran into a similar situation while on a multi day solo bicycle trip. Very frustrating. Severe storms were expected that night so I decided to splurge my very limited funds on a motel room but was unable to get one to let me check in.

My opinion, we ought to push for laws requiring hotel operators to provide lodging to unescorted minors.
