Big congrats to some Canadian skiers with Orienteering connections in making the Canadian Cross-Country Skiing World Junior and World U23 teams that will race in beautiful Liberec, Czech Republic at the end of January.

To start with former Canadian World Junior National Orienteering Team member Colin Abbott of Whitehorse made the Under-23 team. Colin's racing for the Yukon Elite Team, a team of indie athletes based in Whitehorse who ski very fast despite wearing very blah race suits.

As well some athletes on the team from Ottawa have Orienteering connections like as the kids of Kevin Jones(Canadian National Jr O Team in the 80s I believe). Katherine Stewart-Jones made the Juniors team (she's super young) and her brother Patrick Stewart-Jones (now in Canmore with the Alberta World Cup Academy) made the U23 team, after skiing in World Cups this year in Quebec City and Canmore. Patrick was pretty active with OOC a few years ago. Finally Zeke Williams, also of OOC, made the World Juniors team.

Pretty awesome accomplishments given the depth of talent Canada has at some levels in nordic skiing right now.

Congrats to all of those talented skiers!
Hey, I know Kevin from back in the 80-ies - good to see he's got that fast kids :)

They will meet one of my club members - Gustav Eriksson - on the Swedish Under 23 Team. He was also a very talented orienteer some years ago together with a whole bunch of kids born in 1991 in Stora Tuna IK. He was even more talented in XC skiing though so that took over his interest as he grew older.
