What model did you pick? Do you have any advice for someone getting ready to buy a headlamp?

I picked up Mila PLSHID

(top one)

I felt older HID models were much like they were made quick and dirty out of bike lights, with quite narrow beam and all. This has Milas regular O reflectorand a it should have bit wider beam. I picked 2700 mAH nimh battery, weights about 400g and it should give about 2 hours burning time - enough for 43-kavlen and 10mila short legs and my lazy training habbits and fitness.

I'll try to get new lamp today and try it later in the evening. Can't say is it any good yet, the beginnig wasn't promising. They told me this is a very new model and my lamp is the first one sold in Finland, so let's see...

I believe xenon hid is pretty good choice at the moment. Looks like you can get today more lumens out per watt with xenon bulb than with LED, and it doesnt'n mean brighter light, it also means lighter battery. LED will win this race against xenon, but it will take couple of years. Good thing with LED is it much easier and careless to use, so if you really don't need maximum performance, todays leds aren't bad choice either. Lupines led (Wilma X) light about equals 25W halogen, and that may be well enough. I heard later this year there will be new led mode from lupine, it gives about same amount of lumens taht these xenon lamp (800-900 lumes), but it will take 16-18 Watt power, so you'll need more battery capasity.

I really am not expert on this (either :) and picked my lamp by feeling. I'll tell tomorrow how I feel about my new lamp compared to my old 20W halogen. After our easter traing camp I can tell more, these is other guys with different leds, hids and halogens.
