UPDATE: I spoke to the park office this afternoon. As of right now, we have the permit for the Highlander. They would understand if we cancel the event and refund the permit fee. The park ranger will check with her superior and get back to me if needed.

Nobody knows what is. Meaning the many theories, ideas and speculations don't mean much. Palmer might be hiding (pretty miserably), might not be alive or might sit at a friend's house and have lunch. We don't know.

I will suggest a what-if plan to the HH/LL organizers/course setter. As of now, I assume the event will happen.

I will suggest to develop a back-up plan at a safe area.

We know that quite a number of participants travel a long way to get to the Highlander. If possible, we make the event happen.

Yes. Thanks for the update. I hope to hear an even more positive one in the near future, but am glad to know that I will be well-informed either way.

The on-line registration shows as closed (Oct 2). What gives? Announcement indicates registration runs through the 3rd.

Sorry, I am aware of this but can't see how to fix it right now. I'll post here if we can reopen registration. If not, then email me (address in profile).

An admin should be able to reset the end date within the program.

Yes, admin should try Configure Event, Event details.

Yes, but I am only the registrar. We are waiting for Guy to read his email and fix it.

My apologies for the early closure; I must have erred in setting up the closing time. :-(

The Highlander EventReg appears to now be open again -- but I didn't reopen it...

UPDATE Wednesday morning: The situation in the park has not been resolved. The organizers discuss a potential postponement. We do not want to hold the event if there is any danger for the participants.

UPDATE Wednesday noon: The event is canceled. The park office withdrew the permit. The course setter and the organizers had already decided to cancel Sunday's race.

We are discussing a postponed event early in November.

Registered runners can choose either a refund or remain registered for a postponed Highlander.

We are disappointed and sorry. For the safety and the peace of mind of everyone, this is the right decision.

Understandable.
I presume that pre-NAOC Harriman training sites are also threatened to be canceled?

Ricka>> Probably. Stay tuned for more info here and by email.

So does this mean they will close the park forever? It will save some money, I guess.
