It's been brought to my attention that there's NASCAR races in Loudon on the weekend of July 16-17. This is about 10 miles south of Laconia.
So anyone planning on travelling up to NH Sunday on I-93 could encounter heavier than normal traffic up to about exit 15 in Concord, where the the beer-swilling* race car fans would head up Rt 106 to the race track. Orienteers should continue on I-93 up to exit 20, then head north-east on Rt 3 to Laconia.
This shouldn't present too much delay for folks coming for the sprints - the Sunday NASCAR race is at 2:00 pm, gates open at 6:00 am, so most of the NASCAR folks will be in the stands early, warming up their necks to rapidly swivel the head from left to right. (I suppose this is different than fans warming up for tennis matches, where one's head swiveling requires a bi-directional warm-up).
As long as folks don't spend too much time in the woods, or on the beach after the race, you should be able to get on the highway ahead of the car -race crowd heading back south post-race.
* I know that beer is the adult beverage of choice for many orienteers also, but I have observed over the years that they tend to sip and savor the fine nectars in the post-race environment, or just slam it down hard during a beer chase event. Swilling just is not in character for the fine class of individuals one finds at orienteering events.
