Torgeir:
Maybe it’s me being retarded, but there seems to be very sparsely information about this event online. I understand I was supposed to pre-enter, but to whom? There’s no relevant information either on the Vic-o or Benbigo-o site… Also, no information about the format or distance. So now I’m testing whether the Attackpoint-grapevine can bring it to me?

I know that the latter of you spend half your working day monitoring this page, so maybe this could be accepted as my entry? At least, I’m telling everyone now that I intend to come! Please spare me a map, that’s all a ask!

That was in the O-Vic e-bulletin. You'd better hope Jim accepts a late entry ;-)

Don't tell Jim. He's away driving trucks and a bit stressed. I'll pop you in Torgeir.
Actually, let me congratulate you on your excellent Australian vernacular. Hard to believe you weren't born here... or were you? Then you'd be retarded like the rest of us.

The information in the yellow sheet is a little outdated. From what i saw, the long course on day 2 is more than 11k now. I have made it my long run for the weekend. Lots of popping up and down in erosion gullies will mean I will get enough climb to make the virtual distance closer to my training target.

Bruce:
Do you want a ride on Sunday morning, or are you going up for both days?
Do you get the e-bulletin email? All of the info has been there for a couple of weeks.

TheInvisibleLog:
What is your SI stick number Torgeir?
Feb 23, 2007 3:02 AM #
Torgeir:
I’m impressed! Within 30 minutes the answers I'm looking are ticking in here…

Bruce, got an email from Liggo, he’s picking me up at 05:20 –the nightclubs in Hawthorn closes at 5, so that’s perfect timing!

I’ve sent an email to Jimbo, but my IS# is: 258870 just in case.

Think I might have to enter in the 6km course though; I’m not at the same fitness level as Pensioner and the others these days.

Btw, I wasn’t born in Oz; I was born in the county of Telemark on a cold winter day in January and no one slipped an extra shrimp on the barbie for me. However, I could rest peacefully without the imminent danger of Dingos breaking into the hospitals maternity ward, but wolfs where howling in a spinney nearby and polar bears where scratching on the doors...

Yes, and one more thing (when I still have a fraction left of my sanity), is there such a thing as an e-bulletin email? Obviously, that must be reserved for real Aussies. When I get my Permanent Residency approved, I’ll make sure The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs faxes over a copy of my official paperwork.

Bruce:
Course 2 is for girls. Real aussie men do the 10km option.
You don't have to be an aussie to get the bulletin - just an Orienteering Victoria member. Send an email to luddcreely@aapt.net.au to get on the distribution list.
Feb 23, 2007 3:34 AM #
Torgeir:
Ok then, I'll do the 10km (even though I'm not an Aussie man) but only becuase it's a 2 loop course!
Feb 23, 2007 4:21 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
Watch David Jones. He has an inability to run past the assembly area, so never finishes a 2 loop course.

Don't worry about fitness. If I can still see sweat on anyone else when I finish last, I'll know I have done well. More than likely you will all be showered and changed....

Put the splits on splitsbrowser.
http://www.splitsbrowser.org.uk/splitsgraph.php?ev...
Not sure what the program has done. I seperate dthe courses on the splits extraction, but they seem to have combined in splitsbrowser. Too busy to work it out now. Any one else feeling forensic, have a go.
The map and all controls is up on our route gadget site.
http://www.bendigo-orienteers.com.au/gadget/cgi-bi...
Just draw your route from start to the last control (not start). There is no division of courses.
Of course, this is a less than elegant way to do this. It should all be up on route gadget with hageby courses. But the condes file was not created using the condes splits function. I have wasted too much of my life trying to recover this. This will have to do.

Bruce:
Thanks old man. Much appreciated.
My route has been saved.
Feb 28, 2007 9:35 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
You'll keep.
Just a wayward thought. Torgeir started thsi thread with an admission he might be retarded. Since then the course setter has demonstrated he can't measure courses and the results administrator has admitted defeat with condes-route-gadget interfacing..... a bit of retardation all round.

I am led to believe, on very good authority (my source is protected but very strong) that the difference in course lengths was not accidental! It was planned with 2 factors in mind: 1. to see if the average orienteer is as naive as we are lead to believe and takes what is written as gospel, and 2. to shake what is becoming a disturbing reliance on technology to plan courses. What's wrong with the old bit of graduated string and ruler?

TheInvisibleLog:
The distance on the clue sheets was accurate and we were lead to belive that Jymbo was correct and the course setting software was not. The message learnt- trust the machine.

And I thought PC was a Luddite, there is no getting away from him now.

Oxoman:
The old farts are taking over. At this rate Jymbo will be one of the juniors again.
Sorry PC, comment not directed at you personally - this refers back to earlier discussion threads featuring the children (and nephews) of certain AP-ers.

You need some maturity in this discussion -- that's why I've bought in. I feel that I can add another dimension, one that's sorely needed. Now, in my day when you drew your own master maps at around 2.00am on the Sunday there was no room for this sort of error!. It was as if there was a sort of electro magnetic force created by the conjunction of red pen, red wine, map and ruler. It was a magic feeling -- shame you young blokes will never be able to experience it -- I can understand why you feel a bit deprived. Stick around and read a bit more about the good -- sorry, great old days when orienteering was orienteering and the devil took the hindmost!
