Now that's an angle orienteering could take. We can one-up these goofy runs that have beer at the finish. I'm sure that would be the key to increasing participation. As for the effect on actual orienteering performance...

Yeah, we get complaints because we put out port controls on rogaines making the port possibly accesible to juniors. I'd like to think if any juniors are motivated enough to do a rogaine, over indulging would not be high on their agenda.
On the plus side, a lot of participants appreciate a drop of port in the wee hours of a cold dark night.

Your last event was a 12 hour in May.

Have you seen the juniors that come to rogaines? They eat all the rice - who knows what would happen to a bottle of port!
