The Sierra Ski-O week is over and the US have some new national champions in ski-orienteering. Both the long distance and short distance were ran as separate events, but without a surprise, both champions kept their title over the 2 days: Susan Grandjean in the Women's elite, and Mikkel Conradi in the Men's. Congratulations both! Full results and beautiful pictures can be found at http://baoc.org/wiki/Schedule/2007/SkiO/Results

The week of events was great fun, with each venue and course having a distinct character and challenge. Thanks to Tony Pinkham and his crew for their great work on this event!

I did not know Eric could ski :)

He can't ;-)
Okay, seriously, he was probably the most improved skate skier of the week. He went from wooden classic skis to high-tech skate skis in just a few days. I am so proud of my brother.

And I went from a plaid shirt and knickerbockers to tights and sunglasses. I'm hoping to progress to a lycra bodysuit soon.

I've gotten a lot of use out of my XC lycra body suit the past week or two - running here in the East. 12 and windy seems quite like the colder side of California XC conditions :)
Although I have to say I'm highly disappointed with the XC ski opportunities around here - I mean, this year, there is a lack of snow, but even if we have snow, I think there are like 2 XC ski places in the entire state - vs. like 50 downhill areas. And the best XC ski place doesn't seem to have downhill (which is fun for the kids.) Kinda sucks for a parent trying to get in a workout in the snow... I guess there's not much demand for that in PA.
