Hello all,

The town of Irvington, NY, is interested in an orienteering program and map at their Irvington Woods park. It is a nice open woods (like Saxon Woods) in southwestern Westchester County, NY. I am taking bids on an IOF-standard map delivered in OCAD. I believe the area could support a Sprint besides being a great resource in a suburban area (close to Tappan Zee Bridge) for HVO. It's small, maybe >1sq.Km

I also have a potential OCADer so if you just want to do the field work, that's fine.

See Link below

I need to get the proposal in soon so let me know.

Thanks and please pass on to anyone you know might be interested.

If you want to see what you are yourself getting in for, go to http://giswww.westchestergov.com/gismap/
It has good aerial photos and also 2ft contour info (under "additional data on the map -> environmental features", then zoom in to one of the two highest scales).

There is also lidar data there, I believe, and there are people who can convert that into good base map, for a fee.

The 2 meter contours appear pretty decent, based on orthophotos, but are clearly machine generated and would need massaging in the field.

The lidar is in LAS format, which would require some more prepossessing to generate a bare-earth DEM, maybe extract vegetation density, and then generate a contour map. But this effort would be worth it to make a good basemap. I think that LAStools or libLASwould be able to handle that work, in the right hands.

In about 9 months, I might be on the market for jobs like this, but right now I've got other things on my plate.

The US Team has made several basemaps for clubs using the Westchester Lidar in the past year. I can make the base, but I can't do fieldwork. You might want to contact Ed Hicks who has worked extensively on the Westchester bases (not sure if he actively reads AP). If he's up for the job he can arrange for the base through me to keep it simple. Might be able to squeeze in a small job, but otherwise I'm booked heavily through the spring. Depends on how much Ed wants on the base and how soon you need it. I'll e-mail Ed to make sure he sees this.

Looks like i can get the base from Greg Lennon but where are the hungry out-of-work team members? Maybe we can include lodging down in Westchester...Motel 6 style. Jeez this can't take more than 10 days.

Sergey, you forgot the line -

Value of spending 10 days in woods $(10900) <----- because it is so much fun and you love the sport and whatnot.

Net total: $00020 <---- Your revised bid

For that bid I will definitely let Neil to proceed and claim the spot :)

I'd have to include H1B costs, plus costs for time spent in Ireland obtaining said visa, so even after deducting the $10900, I'd still need another 20K.

My bid: $20,020.
