are you writing under protection of a girl's name now or had a quick sex change over there? Why is it for the media but not official?

Clare's the media coordinator who farms requests out to the rest of us - her main job seems to be to make sure that the person being interviewed can speak the same language as the person doing the interviewing. (This problem isn't unique to WMO - once at the Bureau we got a request from SBS radio to do an interview on the drought in Portuguese - fortunately we were able to direct them to a Brazilian working at Melbourne Uni).

I think the 'not an official record' means it hasn't been through formal diplomatic approval processes, which can be very slow (this is an organisation which took until 2003 to officially notice the non-existence of the Soviet Union), but the dual meanings of the word 'record' are confusing - would be better if such things said 'not an official document' and I've told them so.
