The dates have just been confirmed for 2012. We're returning to our traditional event weekend, the May long weekend: Saturday May 19th - Monday May 21st.

We're working on sorting out permissions for the various venues but we assure you they'll be amazing! Final event information should be on the website by January when registration opens. In the mean time we'll keep you posted here.

Interesting that it won't coincide with US's Memorial Day weekend.

Isn't this the usual weekend for the Sage Stomp? And if so, does anyone know when that'll be in 2012?

Yes, that's the weekend the Sage Stomp has been on for over 20 years. I hope there will be something in 2012 as well...

Until recently, it was also the Ottawa O-Fest weekend. Since it's a 4,000 km drive between the two meets, it's not a worrisome conflict. ;)

Yeah, I did not mean to say that no other events could be on the calendar in North America on that weekend. Simply answering Pink's question.

So the tradition is back in Ontario orienteering!

For most of the 80's and 90's Ontario's two biggest races were book ends to the spring, summer and autumn season. Big race #1 in Ottawa in the spring on the May two-four weekend and big race #2 at the Ont Champs in southern Ontario on Thanksgiving in the autumn. The spring race used to be called the Ottawa Interclub. It was club vs. club for a trophy .... but the black flies usually won. ;-)

Sage Stomp vs Ottawa O Fest only becomes a problem for a handful of people if both of them are part of the Canada Cup series and/or if both events want to have WREs.
As for the rest of us unless you live close enough to drive to SS but also have family with a grandchild you love to visit living in the Ottawa area I can't see there being much of a conflict.

No worries, Pi, I didn't see your comment on the thread until after I commnted so I was just answering Pink Socks too.

We just wanted to let everyone know that we have made progress on planning this year's event. The middle distance event will be at the March Highlands, in Kanata on Saturday morning, and the sprint will be at Tunney's Pasture near Westboro on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday the long distance event will take place in the La PĂȘche region starting at P17 in Gatineau Park. The relay will take place on Monday morning at the NRC's Montreal campus where the COCs' sprint was held in 2010.

The entire website should be up and running sometime this week. We expect registration to be up by the end of the week as well if not by the end of the month. We'll let you know via facebook, twitter, and attackpoint when it happens.

In the mean time we'll leave you with these map snippets to whet your appetite:

Just finished putting all of the info up on the website! Note that this year we're adding 2 free Learn to Orienteer Sessions (one on Saturday morning, one on Sunday morning) and a full set of dedicated recreational courses to the weekend. If you know anyone in Ottawa that might enjoy orienteering they should definitely come out while you're in town. This isn't just for the competitive folks - it should be good time for everyone!
