All,

Congratulations to Allison Crocker for her upcoming appearance in Sports Illustrated. Ali and the sport of orienteering will be included in the November 21st edition in the "Faces in the Crowd" section.

Be sure to pick up a copy at your newsstand or visit www.si.com/faces. It should be out as early as Thursday the 17th.

Way to go Ali and all Team USA athletes!

That's pretty awesome! Our sport's most high-profile appearance in the US since a certain hirsute character was on a Wheaties box?

Let's assume SI spells "Orienteering" better than I do.

Peggy Dickison was in "Faces in the Crowd" in the February 12, 1990 issue. (Which happened to be the swimsuit issue.)

Nice work getting an orienteering face in to the crowd.
I think its been 39 years since an SI published a full article about an orienteering event - that was the US Champs at Ward Pound Ridge. We're due for another. I think it would be worth an article to chronicle orienteers racing the ski-O champs in the winter, the SML in Georgia in the spring, the World's (or O-ringen) in the summer leading to the NAOC next fall. The four season sport!
Other potential SI stories could be
the JROTC orienteering across the south,
the West Point team training for races but knowing they may also be using those skills in battle,
the struggle of athletes in small budget sports to get funding to get to World Championships or
while it is well-known that many young European golfer, tennnis players, basketballers, etc come to the States to hone their skills there are many North American orienteers and other sports' athletes heading the other way for the same reasons -the challenges they face making it work.
Well the list goes on and on.

Anyone remember the SI for Kids article? Early 90s maybe?

I think Lans Taylor was in People(?) magazine once, a long time ago, when he was a junior.
