Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone
a) plays golf,
b) carries a GPS with them, and
c) would mind sending me a couple of GPX files, or if you post them in your log then wave a hand and I'll strip them out myself.

I was having a conversation on the weekend about...I guess you'd call it RouteGadget for golf?...but I need some data to play with to see if it's possible.

cheers,
Juffy

I have run a golf course, from tee to green last year... Any use?

What about a GPS track for the ball as well?

Maybe something like http://www.golfplotter.com/

Similar concept, Jagge - I just want to play with the GPS data and see what I can pull out of it.

Colm - no, I'm more interested in a player's movement than just the layout of the course. That's more easily plotted from aerials.

Russell - can I borrow your GPS and a few clubs? :D

I'll take the GPS with me next time I'm out. I think I've done it once or twice, but finding the data would be a challenge.

PG did post a couple of his GPS tracks on the golf course about this time last year, maybe longer. I saw them through AP.
I have one of my golf games on my garmin connect site: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/82894933 Unfortunately the battery lost the last of its juice just before my second shot on #18. Too bad because of course I seem to recall I birdied the hole.

Thanks PG and Gord. :)

Juffy, I tried my IgotU unit with a putter. It would probably work better as an ice-hockey puck - doesn't roll well at all :)

Very interesting. I have been asked to provide GPS tracking for golfers in Italy. I just surveyed an orienteering map of a golf course and I am now asking a company to provide the GPS devices. I will let you know very soon. In the meantime, please check the map and some GPX files used during the survey.

That is a very nice orienteering map of the golf course in Italy. How are you going to use it?
But tell me this - at one hole do the golfers really have to hit across a fenced off marsh from tee to green?

We used the map for an orienteering race on Friday, November 11, 2011- Adriatic Meeting 2011 - Results and maps on www.padovaorienteering.co.cc
We were able to have the golf course all for ourselves from 12.00AM to 3.30PM. No play during this period. Golf Courses are fantastic for orienteering. As mentioned before, I will develop a GPS tracking for the golfers- this map is geo-referenced.
I used the prohibited symbol for the greens and the tees. This golf course is very nice and quite difficult to play on with climbs and natural barriers like enormous waterholes.

Worplesdon Golf Club today:

http://www.attackpoint.org/sessiondata.jsp?session...

First tee was 250m northwest of where I remembered to start the watch. Course measures 6050 yards off the yellows, so was a bit surprised to walk for 12.3kms. May have been connected to playing with three other occasional golfers, and looking for a lot of balls under fallen autumn leaves...

We used a golf course in our MTBO state champs this year, kind of hard to read at 1:20 000 though so I didn't need prohibition symbols on the greens and tees.
