I have just updated the website to include the Possum Trot XV Invitation:
http://ptoc.org/trot/PT%2015%20Invitation.html
SPORTident e-punching (courtesy of Valerie Meyer) will be used this year. See you soon.
Could you incorporate team scoring? Looks like SLOC is going to have good attendance, and we had so much fun at our relay, we thought it would be nice if we could carry that team spirit over to your event.
Information on the Saturday event (KS Champs) is now available
here.
I've never participated in the Saturday event - might this year. To save my legs for the Short Trot Sunday, it's a sprint course, yes?
Rick, it's a cross between sprint and middle. It's a sprint standard map, on a college campus. Winning time will be 22-25 minutes. We keep it interesting, but short enough for the Trot entrants.
So what about the teams competition? C'mon Minnesota and Chicago and Cleveland, bring it on! special prize for best team bus?
Ah, so the Kansas Champs are a Spriddle. Cool. I like those cross-breed events.
Gina and I should be available to beta-test the campus race sometime in the Nov 21-22, 26-27 timeframe.
Remember, Dick N and Mike S are stepping down after this event, so this may be the LAST Possum Trot (unless someone else in the club steps up next year)
Best team bus? That sounds like a good one... See you there!
Maybe we can decorate a Buick!
Ooops...Shifman used the wrong scale for course setting. As designed at the moment, Possum Trot XV is 20 km. Should we shorten it? Or leave it long? Mike S. proposes 2 skips instead of 1, which should subtract about 3 km from the distance. What do you think?
Short Possum will still be a little less than 10 km with 1 skip allowed.
There's not even enough park there for 20 kms. What is this, some kind of turkey day hoax to take advantage of the already bewildered? Shameful! The only possible penance for this attempted atrocity is for the organizers to run the course backwards, sans maps, and not skipping a blessed centimeter, while the participants relax back at the finish eating all the baked potatoes and drinking the ice cold beer.
Isn't two skips kind of the established norm for the Possum Trot anyway?
I'm doing Short Possum, glad that it is still under 10K. Hmm, finishing ahead of Trotters might be possible again. :)
If the Trot was designed for 1 skip, it might be that there will be one 'double skip' that is too obvious for everyone. In that case, '2 skips, no double' or '1 skip on each map (if two maps)', are both possible options.
Looking forward to it.
2 skips please. 2 skips is also a bit more strategically interesting I think.
2 discreet discrete skips.
If you are discreet enough you might manage 4.
Trot weather! 40's and dry predicted!
Trot weather? Will the regulars collapse of either shock or heat exhaustion?
That must be a misprint or typo or some kind of horrible mistake. If it's over 40F, that means contestants won't have to wear gloves (with hand warmer insert), hats, or heavy overcoats. That doesn't sound right at all.
Start times for the KS Champs are now posted. Weather should be great this weekend!
I'll probably skip the overcoat, but this is SMP. I'll be wearing gloves so I can push through the thorns!
Eric, could you be confused about which park? While SMP has some thorns, they are light and scattered ( in general). I've always considered SMP to be one of our least thorny maps.
Less than one hour to the start. Temp is 34. This is freaky.
Justin Bakken, MNOC, won the men's title in 1:54:09. Emily Korsch, SLOC, won the women's title in 2:53:54.
Emily ran a tough 7.5 mile hilly trail race the day before, finishing 8th woman overall out of 175+!
Splits are available on
Attackpoint. Winsplits and results (on the PTOC website) should be available later tonight.
Thanks to Dick, Mike and the rest of the Possum Trot crew for another great event.
Winsplits are now available.
Maps for
PT XV and the
Short Possum
We had a great time! Thanks for the perfect running weather, too. :-)
Thanks for a great event. I really enjoyed it (despite what my legs have been trying to tell me today).
Photos from the Saturday KS Champs, PTOC Christmas party, and last control/last leg/finish/awards of the Possum and Short Possum are up on the MNOC Facebook page:

RouteGadget is now posted:

Thanks for coming. Even I had fun.

On RG, how do we 'skip' a control? Right now, RG seems to be forcing me to go to #17.
Thanks to everyone at KS Champs and the Trot's. Excellent courses, maps, and leadership.
RG has to be set up in the forking/butterfly mode in order to handle a goat. If it isn't, everyone on a course is forced to go to each control that is a part of the course.
Dick is looking at this issue today. Hold off for now.
There is a second RG available now with the SI splits and the correct course loaded for each runner. You can also pick any runners and watch the head to head action, even if they haven't put their routes in. So, load you tracks to the new event, if you did the Trot or short Trot.
Thanks Valerie - it worked for me.
Global warming effect? Possum Trot weather arrives in Kansas about 9 days late.
