That really sucks. I can't believe your bad luck!
I saw you running through the spectator control. You were looking strong!

I tried to shape up and look as fast and athletic as I could right after spectator control. So 50 meters later I ran out of o2, felt terrible and had to slow down. And as usual Hirppa happened to be shooting right there.

Strong? - hmm... polite way to say "not thin" :)

We went the punching and code checking issues trough very well on our way to the event. We even got these memos and some even taped them on their wrist :) The very first line is about always checking code and punching properly.

But, lots of people punching at the same time at last control, pushing each other, difficult to see the flash and is the beep really mine, so heard beep from an other unit, imagined flash and "it has been in so long it must have taken already".

I wish every one of us mispunches same year and then 25 years with no mispunces. Instead of having just one every year.

But for a small club we did pretty well, we would have ended up about 60. We did not know about the DQ during the race. Sure, there was strange issues, like the one who got disqualified at in the end had problems with reading the stick, when they downloaded the computer showed my name (?!) and lots of punches missing, then a "younger guy" came and re-started the application and downloaded it again, then it's showed punches with no runner name. they said there is something wrong with the system and could not tell is it OK or not. But said it's possible it ok. But it wasn't, they just couldn't tell at that point. I heard several similar stories, people were told they can't say is it ok or not because system wasn't working properly. Maybe reason why results were missing most of the time and it was impossible to tell how it was going. And I head speakers used hand notes to be able to tell about how it goes and that's why they did not know much about disqualifications either.

After my run I watched Topias sleep and then we searched for sand and played there with a brand new toy digger (bob-the-buider digger replica) he got at Turku harbour. Lots of fun.

Watching Topias sleep sounds like a fun activity ;-)
(at least after getting low on O2...)

60th place - if it had been OK - sounds like a good result for you so it must be frustrating with this never-ending story of mispunches :(

I heard about several other issues with system failure - and slow results of course that must have been because of all these problems. One of our early runners (2nd leg) on the 4th team was DQd when he read his stick - saying he mispunched four controls (!), but when they went back later he was apparently OK. We then had the same failure at one control with missing punch and was finally DQd a couple of legs later. We didnĀ“t get any results at all for our 4th team out at the competition site, but now they are at least visible on the results page.

I think it was better like this, not knowing about disqualification. I can imagine it would not have been so much fun to run in already disqualified team. But of course, having actual result in the end would have been even better.
