This is predominantly for Linda since AOL started hating my outgoing mail server about a month ago, so I never know if she has received my messages. Others are welcome to chime in, too. The hope for Team Trials 2012 in the San Francisco Bay Area is still alive, but action has to be quick. The event can be pulled off on the second weekend of May, via some combination of forces of one or more of BAOC, Get Lost!!, and the Team, the exact proportion can be decided once willingness is apparent to proceed. The biggest stumbling block appears to be poison oak.

The event cannot be held in Tahoe, where there is no poison oak, because the WOC is early and there is a strong chance of snow in the Sierra Nevada all through May and early June. Other West Coast clubs do not appear to have the willingness or the infrastructure to support the Trials. There is (at least some of) both in the Bay Area, and by elimination the only place and time that would work is the second weekend of May in SF and the North Bay.

The big question to be answered is whether PO is a definite deal-breaker or not. There will be ample PO at the proposed Middle and Long venues. If not, I will pursue the matter further.

On the plus side of the proposed arrangement, there is a chance for excellent publicity, good sponsorship, excellent logistics, and an almost-new Sprint map.

I don't see the PO as a deal-breaker. This seems like a great opportunity for Team Trials.

PO presence makes absolutely no difference to me. Is it really that big a deal?

Get zanfel or tecnu to sponsor the event.

I think we got over the PO stumbling block, no one who gave feedback to the ESC seemed to mind much about it.

Some combination of other reasons means that the ESC is leaning towards using the GNC races as TT, but nothing is absolutely set, I'll wait for Linda to communicate more.

I have not heard anything back from GAOC, however, it seems that BAOC has other events on it's docket and is not totally on board with putting on a team trials. Perhaps I have misinterpretted the email that I received from Vlad earlier this afternoon. Given that the GNC is a sanctioned event, a championship and WRE does make it a good candidate.

BAOC will not be the lead on the proposed event, however Get Lost!! can take the lead (at the expense of rescheduling our proposed March, 2012 event for 2013). That's my interpretation of the latest correspondence.

Poison oak makes no difference to me either, and I'm extremely allergic. If BAOC is willing, wouldn't it be good to have the trials closer to WOC than mid-April?

Linda, I did respond to you (this is Sam from GAOC) back on Sep 5th. We are open to hosting the team trials in April at the US Champs. What I asked for is info on what is required from the organizers - I haven't gotten a response to that question. We don't want to commit to doing it until we know what extra is required of us. Of course, if you want a later date, that's fine too.
