Discussion: Event Postponed

Because of the impending Hurricane Irene, the WP&FG coordinator has postponed the event. More information to follow on a potential rain date.

The woods always survive. Just because they may become more like WOC terrain doesn't mean you can skip out.

Rephrase: let's hope at least some of the map<->terrain correspondence survives.

My bet is that the Hurricane threat is being overblown (no pun intended) by the media. Rain? Yes. Wind? Yes. Armageddon? hmmm maybe not.

Back in 1999, Floyd (the tropical storm, not Pink) did a number on parts of Surebridge. Pretty much made them unsuable for O-courses.

Floyd also arrived a couple of days before the West Point meet, but the cadets were ready for us!

The W Pt meet was in the Fall??

I remember the power was out at Camp Buckner and we got checked in with Flashlights. The meet went on though there were a number of newly fallen trees in the forest.

The West Point A-meet was in the fall from roughly 1994-1999. I'm not sure if there were meets at all in 1993 or 2000, and in 2001 there were "Extreme-O" meets in both the spring and fall (and another one sometime later that I didn't go to). The 1996 meet wasn't exactly in the fall, it was in August, in conjunction with some meets in Harriman.

Ok, now I remember. Wasn't sure during which period they were in the Fall.

August 1996 was the ____ Roundup using all the WOC 93 maps + W Pt.

The storm "Gudrun" just about erased a number of the mapped areas for Swedish O-ringen in 2005. A lot of adjusting of courses and maps occured...

Any word on re-schedule date/time?

The meet has been rescheduled for Thursday (1 Sep) afternoon. Likely start time for the WPFG contestants is about 1530. Status of the B Meet is a bit up in the air right now - if anything is still on, it will likely be a very short start window after the WPFG contestants have started (unfortunately, we can't get things started any earlier due to our school schedules).

The later the better!
