I wanted to put this idea out to people within a few hours of Syracuse. The CNYO club has some very nice maps a little north of syracuse which some people experienced at the US champs ore the north Americans a few years ago. We are also working a a bunch of small park/city/campus sprint maps. I am trying to get orienteering going a little more in this area and am thinking of having weekend training at some of the Better CNYO maps. It would be saturdays and sundays. I could put a few people up and we could work on other housing options. what I am wondering is if I put out a few non A meet weekend dates would people be interested in coming up or down for a weekend of training, on all levels, orienteering?

Yes, absolutely! Although in my case, not until after the SML champs.

I would be interested in training, esp. on the Happy Valley map.

glad that someone come up with this idea from the locals. i live like 5h driving far, but those areas definitely spark my interest, and maybe few others runners from here. i probably prefer to have like 4 shorter (middle and on a 1:10k, please) map sessions ( i.e 2 from noon-till evening saturday ) and 2 early sunday - leaving before 2pm.. personally not interested in sprint at all at this time.. suggestion : even better -- do one as an 'event' ( mostly sunday - again middle will be the best ). Happy Valley map, the one from 3years ago long area.. all have great sections that support that theory. Not the Ontario Champs weekend - Oct 8-10 please, maybe 2-3 weeks before ( not knowing the schedule in NY area ). thanks

With XC coaching, Saturdays are tough (meets most weeks), and I don't miss Bills home games, but Zach could probably make it almost any Sunday with either Chris or me.

Also, ROC has meets on Sept 17 (NOD) and Oct 2, 15, 30 (all club series meets). Many in our attendee pool are typically volunteers or interested in the club series.

Fall is a busy time for us plus we are 5+ hours away....BUT, if you did something like this next spring, we'd go. In fact, I had considered going out there the last couple of springs for some training at the fish hatchery (2008 NAOC) but opted for other venues.

I like Nick's suggestion about times (start noonish Sat and end around 2 Sunday. I like a mixture of sprint and middle distance; especially since there doesn't seem to many training opportunities for Sprint.

BTW, the training wouldn't be for me but for Andrew and Ethan preparing for JWOC.

Glad to here interest. My goal is to plan them around all the A meets and Local Meets for Both ROC and CNYO unless we can tie it into a local meet. The time Nick Mentioned was along the lines of what I was thinking. I may be able to set up a meet for one of the sessions. Essentially any weekend that I am not away I will be doing orienteering training on Sat and Sun on those maps, so anyone would be welcome any weekend. Let me go back to the calender and put up some dates for those who live further away.

These maps are ~ 3 hours drive from Ottawa so the training is of interest for our group of elite and junior runners.
As Nick says, Not the Ontario Champs weekend - Oct 8-10 please. Instead I hope you come to Ottawa for that weekend.

Sept 10-11 is UNO's Pawtuckaway Weekend - usually pretty well attended even though its not an A-meet... Looks like a busy fall schedule...

Re: GuyO, the US SML champs are actually on October 21-23. UNO's Boulderdash A-meet is on October 8-9.

Based on what people are saying these are the dates That I was thinking of. Sept 17-18 both CNYO and ROC have local meets which could be a nice combo. Sept 24-25, Oct 1st and second, possibly Oct 15 and 16 but I might be away. Nov 5 and 6 CNYO has scout of which could be a nice combo, Nov 12 13, Nov 19-20 although thats the golden gate sprints, Nov 26-27 and any weekend in the first few weeks of Dec as long as there is not snow. So I will prob be training on all of these so anyone is welcome anytime just let me know but we can figure out a couple big weekends to go all out and set up some fun stuff.
