Looking for a unique way to ring in the new year? Orienteering Cincinnati (OCIN) will offer 5 O' races in 3 days, including two "A" sanctioned sprints on Sunday, December 31. This is your last chance to earn USOF ranking points for 2006, as well as the kick-off of the
2007 Sprint Series! OCIN's
New Years Orienteering Festival will include a regular local meet on Dec 30, two sprints on Dec 31, Midnight Score Orienteering to ring in the New Year in style, and the Billy Pig and Piglet
billygoat style races to cap it off on New Year's Day. All events will be in or near Oxford, Ohio, 30 miles NNW of Cincinnati.
On New Year's Eve, we've traditionally had a Midnight orienteering race... a score course of 60 -90 minutes with a mass start precisely at Midnight. This year, with the long and grueling Billy Pig on New Year's Day, we're already getting requests to run the midnight course early. So, how's this for a plan? Let's celebrate "Midnight in Rio". Its 3 hours earlier in Rio de Janeiro, and by special dispensation, all clocks in Governor Bebb Park are to be turned ahead to Rio time. We'll decorate the cabin for Carnival (so what if we're a couple months early), and start the score-O at Midnight Rio time (9 pm Eastern). Afterwards, New Year's party at the cabin, a big "Salut!" of alcohol-free grape beverage at midnight, and early to bed with dreams of running with the Pig in the morning. Whaddaya think?
Sounds good. (I'm not much of a night person)
