NORT Gothenburg on SVT Play
Just a reminder, this starts in an hour.
It's not very exciting is it?
relative to what? To road running or track and field or triathlon it is much more exciting.
Compared to interval start and/or forest orienteering it is less interesting.
Go Scotty.
It was way less exciting than the Men's middle at WOC last year, and multiple legs at Jukola over the past five years for a start.
That was pretty neat to watch. Not nearly as good as watching traditional orienteering but it does a good job of showing the basic elements of orienteering. I could see it as 'gateway orienteering' for those that aren't familiar with it.
I think it would be much better with more longer legs with tricky to find route choices such that somebody from the back of the pack could find a better route choice and gain time.
I'd rather watch that than any race on a track. The fact that there is always that chance. Even Hubmann's decision to go wide on the last control in the final still created a bit of a buzz. The "he just might catch him" kind of excitement. So much more changes of the lead than in road running and other less interesting running sports. ;-)
I suspect 2-person urban sprint relay with each person running two times and with forking would be pretty awesome to watch.
I thought it was well done. Helena Jansson was good as a commentator.
Mike, the two man sprint relay is an event I want to see a lot more of!
Helena Jansson hardly said anything!
Reminded me of the sprint finals back in the day. These guys are fast...
Yes--my legs were burning watching that.
It made me think how much better show would it make with "8 map format" style spreading. I mean, that was such a crap it is almost impossible to make any worse (well, lack of gps tracking would do it as we saw in Stockholm). At least it would force them to navigate on their own and it would cause some drama for sure.
I'm glad you agree with me Jagge! The GPS was mostly not very reliable anyway...
Did Scott look at his map? ;-)
I liked the way he disposed of it at the finish :)
