I've never done any orienteering. Would there be an opportunity for me and my family to learn at this event in Santa Cruz, or should we go elsewhere to learn? Thanks!

The event requires basic street map reading skills. If you can find your way with a street map, or with a smartphone-app map, you will be fine! (Street Scramble maps typically don't have all street names on them, but it is allowed to use any maps you may want to bring, including electronic and GPS-enabled versions.) It's not possible to get "badly" lost at a Street Scramble event, since wherever you are, you're most likely on the course and a checkpoint or several are usually within reach.
