This is why I have to read your log. It's a form of higher education!

The greatest risk from eating bananas in Australia is to your financial well-being. The price has reached $4 a banana at the local this week. They are big bananas though. In five to six months we can expect a glut and the other price extreme.

I think of bananas in terms of their potassium content. 1 inch = 1mmoL K+ is the conventionally held wisdom (although surely it would vary depending on diameter e.g. plantain vs ladyfinger) and this is most relevant to people with kidney failure where potassium overload has the potential to be fatal (well, actually, it always has that potential but is most severe in renal failure) and I have heard of people at end-stage who've had enough of dialysis, choosing death by banana/stone fruit.

Anyway, this thread (and my comment) is sounding vaguely familiar but I can't think where/when the deja vu originates. Possibly it was on Coolrunning where someone who was not so much vegan but fruitarian, referred to living on 20+ bananas a day. Hope she's not starving now!

I think I'll risk the outcome from banana beta radiation in preference to what is coming out of the Fukushima. I'm glad Invisible has appeared. He should be alerted to the radiation risks of his vegan diet.

20 bananas a day = $80.
Or $560 a week.
Or $29,000 per annum.
I rest my case.

Just crunching the numbers on the economics of reselling bananas to the good citizens of Bendigo. I don't think the market is big enough for a viable venture unless we can increase the number of 20 bpd consumers, and the price would drop the instant a container of bananas entered the supply.

$12 a kilo at the moment, 4 big bananas a kilo. Better to eat none now and make up by consuming 40 a day when the price crashes.

I turned my last 3 into a banana loaf because they tasted like crap. I shall be waiting for the price to drop before I buy them again.
