So announced today by someone who does an index. So coming home to Melbourne at second most liveable will be a come-down.

I take such rankings with a pinch of salt, especially as the most-publicised of them (at least in Melbourne) is done by a think-tank with a vested interest in urban sprawl. More generally, such rankings inevitably involve value judgements about what criteria are/aren't important.

That said, I can think of far worse places to live than Vancouver.

Harare is the obvious in that regard. Speaking as a Bendigonian by choice, I don't place much on that evaluation of Melbourne. For a start, its a long way to any good O terrain. I think there was once a T-shirt that said "Come to the Seattle Rain Festival: September to July every year". Vancouver could make the same claim I imagine.

Cant see how any cities are liveable.
I hate traffic and therefore by association cities.

Couldn't bear to live in Sydney/Melbourne even though the social and entertainment opportunities are seemingly endless. Seems to me most city people tend to stay in their local enclaves for the greater part, thus limiting those opportunities.

.....and it's getting worse; we now have a rush half-hour here in Newcastle.
