A MNOC member wrote this about our Rogaine in August.

Incredible. A control pictured in the NYTimes. feet may need to shell out a buck to take a look at this one.

Not the first time O has been in NY Times.
When HVO came out with the forest park map in Queens in the early 90's we got a big article in the NY Times. Including a picture of the map.
You'll have to buy the article - unfortunately - if you want to read it.

For a while they would put notices of our events in the CT section. It was erratic though and I stopped sending them notices.

Interesting... I see what you mean. And the HVO boat logo actually made it into the Times. Better than the NEOC troll or the old school DVOA rabbit probably.

"B.Y.O.C" everyone.

I was able to view the new article by registering (for free). I don't think you have to pay to look at it. I printed a copy too. (And linked to it from the USOF site / Media page.)

Janet, once the article is more than a week old, it may go into the depths of pay-only / TimesSelect access, so the link may not be freely accessible after that. It would go to the redirect page for 'do you want to pay for this article?' after that.

However, I actually think we're lucky here - it's in the Travel section which I think is freely accessible even when it gets more than a week old. (There are a few sections like this - book and movie reviews, for example).

Incidentally, why would feet need to shell out a buck? nytimes.com works just fine for free. Particularly when you block all the ads.

I thought you had an aversion to registering for free content. I was suggesting shelling out a buck to buy your very own paper version.

Well, I didn't register with my real name, of course.

Stephen has been fantastic about promoting O' and related sports (rogaining, AR) in his articles though. In my opinion, we need more exposure like this.

Yes, I thought the article was well written (hey, it's the Times) and was free from the usual "follow the compass" BS, aside from the slightly disappointing list at the end of the article ("Boy Scouts, adventure racers, hikers and European expatriates among the most passionate participants"). Seemed somewhat exclusuve. I'm sure if it was the Atlanta J-C, it would have gone something like "Boy Scouts, JROTC, and ham radio operators," and then I wouldn't know why I would ever want to do anything with said activity.

Yeah, the problem with bugmenot is that it doesn't work for TimesSelect. It works very well 95% of the time though (j-man is actually remembering a thread where it was me recommending bugmenot, I think).

Indeed. But, I know you are a resourceful chap, too.
