Wow, they look surprisingly alert and cheerful after hosting NAOC, flying to Australia Monday morning, driving to the Warrumbungle Mountains, and preparing to rogaine on Friday.
Thanks, Bash. I was hoping someone would flesh out the details for me. :)
Maybe by the time I'm in my sixties, I'll finally have as much energy as they do. Something to look forward to!
That is what I am hoping as well!
Congratulations to all who participated in the World Rogaine Championships - and the USA medal winners are:
1st Women's Super Vets, 3rd Women's Vets: Sharon Crawford & Robin Spriggs
1st Men's Super Vets: Ken Walker Sr & Glen Brake
3rd Mixed Super Vets: Mary Smith & Eric Smith
Another triumph for the geezer team!
Less colorfully, but more specifically, Glen and DaddyO Walker were 1st in Super veterans and 31st overall of about 310 teams - GREAT results!
SHaron C and Robin were 1st in Female SV and 3rd in Female Veterans.
Due to heat, climb, and distance, only 3 teams gathered 2/3 of points.
Sharon, Glen, and the Smiths have all done most of the Highlanders -- will they be back in New York by tomorrow? :-)
Way to go Mama Sue and Papa Jim aka The Waddingtons who placed 8th in SuperVets! Their grandchildren (and children) are very proud. I still can't imagine how my father pulled this one off literally days after NAOC. Can't wait to hear the stories.
It seemed to my trained eye, looking at the results, that at least at the top the field was about as strong as it was at the 5WRC in Bohemia, and less so than at the 6WRC in Arizona. Perhaps the location in AUS brought out record participation, but it's not clear to me that any of those teams were at the level of world-class endurance athletes such as Tobin and Kloser. This is not to meant to subtract in any way from the achievement of the winners! What I'm trying to say is that we should have more WRCs in N. America and Europe.
I believe that a decision was made in 2004 to hold the WRC every two years, rotating the location between the Southern Hemisphere, Europe, and North America. So we don't get another WRC here until 2010. :-(
