Discussion: OCAD- editing control descriptions

Allan Bogle:
I am planning a course in OCAD whichs starts off on one map (MAP A) then there is a section in the middle on a different scale map(MAP B) and then flips back to the original map (MAP A).

My question is how do I get the control numbers on the control descriptions to change?

I need the controls on MAP B to be from 13-20, and on MAP A I need to skip 13-20, so the control after 12 needs to be 21.

Understand? is this possible to do?

If you do "File-ExportCourseMaps" (might be slightly different depending on what version of 0CAD you are using), that will create separate 0CAD files for the courses. You can open these files and edit them however you like, e.g. by changing the control numbers (on the map and in the control descriptions), although you will have to be careful to do it correctly, because there will no longer be software keeping track of things for you.

Thanks for the explanation!
job done!

Or you could combine the two maps into one OCAD file

Does combining 2 maps work correctly when the maps are in different scales?

it works, you just have to be careful about the scale: in this case one of the maps would be the 'wrong' scale in the combined file, so you would need to do some maths when printing - and the course length would be wrong. But the advantage would be you would still have the 'software keeping track of things'.

I am guessing in this case JJ's solution is easier: I would do the same if I was printing the two maps on separate pages. But If I was printing both on the same page I would combine the files. I have done this several times when I have used a larger scale 'inset' map of a detailed area for a few controls on a longer course. You just have to carefully think through the implications for scales and symbol sizes and when doing the courses you will have to work out lengths independently of the automatic OCAD calculation.

Condes deals with the problem explicitly.

>Una - are you talking about the scale the map is printed or the ocad scale of the drafting. Those are two entirely different things and can lead to miscalculation of course lengths frequently.
