How good do you have to be at skiing to do the O bit Alex? I have no qualms about coming last by a long way, but I am worried that my lack of skill (particularly stopping ability) may make me a liability to others. What do you think?
You're only a liability if you fall and get hurt and I have to come looking for you...
I think that as long as you've done some skiing in the past, are comfortable snowplowing down hills and sidestepping up hills, in the worst case scenario, you'll be fine. There is significantly more ski than O in US ski-O, but if you don't mind spending a while out there, and are prepared for it, you'll be fine. Remember that if you really need to stop, and you can't, snow hurts a lot less than pavement to just sit down on it!
I think you should come =)
I am very, very good at the butt on snow stopping technique. Amongst the best, in fact. I will have a think!
Weekend looks great. How classy a dresser do you have to be to attend?
Very. They won't let you in the doors for dinner without a dinner jacket, although it sounds like they do have loaner jackets if you don't have one. The guy I've been corresponding with was very worried that we wouldn't be dressed properly, so I assured him that we do know how to dress. That said, I've heard some awesome things about the food, and I think it will be totally worth it, dinner jacket and all.
That policy is awesome.
The Canadian Nordic Ski team would not have a problem.
The Canadian Orienteering team on the other hand....
and by dinner jacket they mean dinner jacket and good shoes and no jeans. But there's a store way down the road that sells slacks...
Definitely worth throwing on a coat and tie. Great buffet dinner and breakfast, too (...no jacket req'd for breakfast)!
Does the lodging rate assume/require double occupancy? (Not sure yet if it is feasible to attend, but knowing whether or not I should look for a roommate would be useful.)
The lodging rate does assume double occupancy. For one person, the rate is $209. So, it is a better deal to have two people, but at least there is some break if you're alone. The lodging rate includes dinner, breakfast, and skiing (both alpine and XC) on the arrival and departure days. I can't wait for the dinner! =)
