The US Team is holding a Wine & Cheese Social on Saturday, 4:30-6:30pm at the meet hotel. A donation of $8/person will be payable at the door, all proceeds go to the Team Fund. The Team will be available to go over your course with you on an informal basis. Please RSVP to Janet Porter djporter2@verizon.net

Don't know any of the Team members? This is a great opportunity to speak with them individually and get some great O advice.

The time to start buying wine & cheese is fast approaching. Let Janet know that you are planning to attend by sending her an email. Come and get warmed up after what could be a quite chilly day. It will be a great opportunity to get some advice from Team members...US Champions Samantha Saeger and Ross Smith will both be there as well as other team members. The $8 donation will be collected at the door.

I may have some skills as an orienteer, but those skills pale in comparison to my cheese eating abilities!

Sounds like there'll be some good wine at the social, Corinne is picking it out. Wish I was going to be there...but I'll make up for it...they must have wine in Greece?!?!?

Will definitely be the place to be Sat eve- nice and warm indoors (possibly snow during the day!), scrumptious wine and cheese and all in support of the US Team- hope to see folks there!!

Snow! I heard 50 degrees.
Is this wishful thinking on Ali's part? Is she packing her skis?

AliC:
Well, not that optimistic chance of snow, only 20% by whatever forecast I read... =) And unfortunately, even if it does, I only have rollerskis with me!

Jeff, sorry to say that Ali is closer to correct than you. I just checked the weather forecast as I'm getting things ready for the weekend. Saturday is mostly cloudy with high temps in the low 40's with a NW wind 5 -10mph; saturday night is partly cloudy with lows in the 20 with NW wind 5 - 10mph; sunday is partly sunny with high's in the upper 40's See ya this weekend

Let's plan on some roller skiing. Maybe after the wine and cheese?
Nov 5, 2010 2:15 AM #
Rosstopher:
I'd join in the roller skiing, but I've been banned from even trying because of the high likelihood that I'll damage myself. It's a shame to have poor balance. Oh well, I suppose I can content myself with the wine and cheese.

Apparently it's easier and safer after the wine and cheese. I'm sure whoever banned you from roller-skiing didn't ban you from post-wine-and-cheese-roller-skiing, a totally different activity.

LKohn:
Is that because post-wine-and-cheese-roller-skiing begins with Ross clinging to a guard rail moments after setting out?

For those of you following at home -- there were scattered snow showers this morning. According to Ali, this first snow of the season means ice cream is in order. Wine, cheese & ice cream. Hmn...

No ice cream at the wine and cheese, but lots of people and lots of wine (and some beer) and cheese, with the people certainly being up to the task and polishing off all of the wine supplies by the end and just about all the snacks.

And having what seemed to me a nice time, a good place to hang out late afternoon on a very cold day.

Thanks to Janet Porter for setting things up and getting the supplies, and Ali for for being the on-site maitre-d'.

We should do things like this more often.

Hi all, just to say thanks so so much to absolutely everybody who came! It was great to see, chat, and meet so many people and we made $463 towards the team fund, which is really super fantastic!

Special thanks to Vlad, who made a special donation in honor of his 25th year (maybe plus a month) of orienteering, Janet for the planning and securing the food+wine and Peter for mc-ing!!
