this morning, in southwestern Pennsylvania, a 24-hr adventure race started, and it will end tomorrow morning. It is the USARA national championship final. Among the many legs and challenges, there are three orienteering courses (Sprint, daytime score, night-time cross-country). The race commentary is posted every so-often here, and one of the teams carry a signal-emitting device and their location can be seen here

They must have dead batteries.

no. they are moving again. The signal-emitting device must be mounted on the bike. For about 3+ hrs, there was no movement, as the 3-person team went on the Orienteering course on foot, leaving the bikes at the transition area. My prediction is that they will reach the finish in 4 hours (1 AM sunday), and then start the 17-km cross-country Orienteering Course 2, which, done in the dark and some steep climbs, I say they will come either first or second place at around 5 AM.
