Discussion: Last update of the 2006 Sprint Series

The final standings in the qualifying series are posted. Seedings for the Finals this weekend will be up tomorrow.

105 sprints this year. John Fredrickson and Pavlina Brautigam won the qualifying series (last year it was Jon Torrance and Viktoria Brautigam). John made it to the most races (25) and won the most (12). For the woman, Samantha Saeger sprinted most often (19) with the most wins (12), but Pavlina did well at more high-point races.

And keeping in mind the original reason for the Series -- to get our top orienteers running more sprints to better prepare them for the WOC/JWOC -- Samantha, Hillary Saeger, and Louise Orem all qualified for the Sprint A final at WOC, and there were several near misses. So there is progress....

OK, the seedings match-ups are posted. Subject to change, of course, if appropriate bribes are received.

Note that new for this year is that rules on who advances in each round are a little different -- generally the top 2 in each group plus the next fastest finisher. Makes it possible to advance even if there are two speedsters in front of you.

So who's going to end up on top?

That new rule sounds like a good idea. Especially if you end up in a tough group like Group 4 in Heat 1. That's going to be a tight battle.

the rules ( at least looking thru last year result ) are something like "everybody starts in the same time same course " ?, just you belong to different heat ?
or where is the a better place to look to get info.?

jfredrickson:
Each group is mass started individually, so they run head-to-head for the entire course. The top 2 from each group move on, plus the person with the fastest time on the course who wasn't in the top 2 in his/her group.

Will be 2 minutes between groups, working on the schedule today....

I imagine someone will start some kind of pool here on AP. There was definitely one last year, although I don't think any money was involved.

Perhaps a $10 donation to AP buy-in with some kind of cool AP gear for the winner?

I just hope I don't get too "ensconced in the nexus of dense detail" :D

Those course setters' notes were provisional. You will not see any more nexuses of detail of any sort in the final version.

Start list and schedule for Sunday's Sprint Finals.

looks good , except for people like me -driving about 500 miles, the last start probably it will be good to be earlier. between sprint 1 and 2 are 2 hours , but 3 hours between 2 and final, any chance of bring it early ( since you can not have an " early" start on the final ??, ..on the second thought, yes you could.

No, 2 pm is the earliest we can do it to avoid conflicts with other activities in that part of the park.
