Wow, I don't know how they determine who runs what heat in the qualifiers, but must have sucked to end up in the heat with Merz, Tervo, Gueorgiou, Wickholm, Kärner, Dahlen, and Jo.Lakanen!
Interesting to see "non-famous" guys to really well. Do you think it's a home terrain effect or something else?

It's based directly on Finnish ranking. Gueorgiou and Novikov haven't run any races here, so they had to start in the very beginning. Merz had run some races but is not ranked very well, so he is far better than his Finnsh ranking too.

I don't think there were any big surprises. I guess those "non-famous" gue are not that non famous here. Backman is euromeeting winner (and Yökuppi regular :) And it was about time for Fagerudd to make a result like that. He has got his share of unlucky injuries and flus at WOC trials.

Gueorgiou was impressive, he was strongest in he final with clear margin, but he kind of lost it at qual race. Course was a lot faster for the late starters, it is really impressive he could do that well. He should have run it a bit faster to get better start position, makes me wonder did he underestimate the field and took qual race too too easily or was the qual race course just so much faster for late starters too.
