Nev-Monster:
Canada's top female 10km runner Emilie Mondor was killed this weekend between Ottawa and Montreal. Only 25 Mondor came in 17th place in the 5,000 metres at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, in 15:20.15. She was planning on moving up to the marathon this fall.

I saw her run this spring at the Ottawa Nat-Cap 10km, a really bubbly personality and was excited to be back healthy and racing after battling back from serious back injuries.

A rough week for Canadian Track with both her and former Olympian Mark Graham being killed in Afghanistan.

Wow, my heart sank when I read that. I too had the pleasure to see her run at McGIll a few years back - an awesome girl. It truely is sad. I bet you the Quebec flag is "en berne" for her today. Quebecers love their athletes.

How sad! Car crash?
She was a phenomenal athlete. Amazing xc runner, too.

Apparently, she lost control of her car on the 417 near Hawkesbury.

She wasn't wearing a seat-belt and was thrown from her car when it rolled.
Here's the briefing from Athletics Canada:

Very sad - she won the annual Manchester Thanksgiving Road Race in 2003 with a new course record, 23:56, a great time.

I wonder if she was tired while driving to or from an event? I know many of us also do long drives in pursuit of O' competitions and get tired on those drives. Might want to pull over to sleep a while instead of fighting to continue driving when your eyes are blinking closed. So drive safe, buckle up, drive with a friend keeping you awake, etc... as we collectively travel about half a million km see each other at the NAOCs.
