Yawn. Fundamentalist preachers caught in the act might be news.

The discussion of this on alternativet is pretty funny, with people immediately saying that it can't possibly be a Swede.

Maybe a title for Stieg Larsson's next book, "The girl that played with a map"

Too bad he is dead, it would have been an instant classic.

I'm flabbergasted. Why is this news? I guess it's at least encouraging that elite orienteers are important enough to make a splash.

torbensfunk:
Why that is news? Because it is news. Because the article is from yesterday, and if something is NEW in the newspapers, i reckon it should be called News! Or do you disagree?
maybe my English is so bad, that i thought it is called "news" when it is written in the newspapers
Sep 14, 2010 3:26 PM #
Cristina:
Perhaps I should have written "newsworthy".

Well if Tiger Woods knobbing about is news, why can't this be?

I don't think she's questioning why you called it news or posted it here. I think she's just wondering why the newspaper thought that it was interesting enough to report on.

Yes, the implication is that there is no real stigma to such dalliances, so it is tantamount to reporting that a Swedish elite runner got a haircut.

Maybe a very slow news day?

I think the news implication is that young elite orienteers is Sweden are so well off that at least this one can afford 2500 Skr for a half hour massage with extras.

Never mind the article--the real story here is the great price on croissants in the ad to the left. Just think how many you could buy with 2500 kronor!

So, about $350. What would PPP say about this? At least in America, I don't think you can transport such providers across state lines, so PPP/LOOP can't really be enforced.

Spitzer proved you can transfer the client across state lines as an alternative arbitrage mechanism.

One of the criteria that the Australian Sports Commission use for funding is the "community relevance" of the sport. I wonder if it rates any points on the "community relevance" scale if your sport is sufficiently high-profile for a tabloid newspaper to consider it worthwhile to report one of your participant's alleged liaison with a prostitute?

Still, it seems that, even in Sweden, we don't do off-field scandal as well as footballers. (Those of you from outside Australia who have never heard of Brendan Fevola can consider yourself fortunate).

Could this be a new career opportunity for the Legend of Lygon Street? Who better to advise young elite sportspersons on inappropriate behaviour.

Forget the croissants . There are Chanterelle mushrooms for sale at 79.90 a kilo. thats about $11 USD. A kilo of Chanterelles around here would cost about $140!

Bah, those chanterelles are picked on the other side of the Baltic sea and they're probably in quite a sorry state by the time they reach the store.

I participated in a secret chanterelle gathering in Sweden this summer. Quite satisfactory.

@Blair - you can add Johnathan Thurston & Craig Moore to that ever growing list of misbehaving footballers. Rounds out the codes quite nicely.

I've heard that Estonian chanterelles can be lower quality. BTW, chanterelles can be found in Harriman State Park. I have found plenty on the Surebridge map.

I have filled the freezer with chantarelles but, of course, you shall fry them fresh, as Charlie and I did. My question is how can a thread about having sex with a prostitute suddenly become a thread of the difference between Estonian and Swedish chantarelles?
Sep 17, 2010 2:19 PM #
Bernard:
It is an interesting thread hijack. I do the same just put them in a pan over a low flame to remove the water. They freeze nicely and can last for years. Its been a very dry summer around here and this years season was a loss.
Sep 17, 2010 2:33 PM #
Pellervo:
Too dry for chantarelles here in southern Finland too.
I'd prefer finnish chantarelles over swedish and estonian, however It's hard to find any chantarelles on the store apart the estonian ones.

Of course I like the Swedish chanterelles but I think I could accept even Finnish or Estonian chanterelles as long as I don´t have to have a conversation with them...
Sep 17, 2010 2:55 PM #
Haltochlytt:
Finnish, Estonian and Swedish chantarelles. Perhaps it is code words for prostitutes from different countries. I’m not sure I want to know. But Pellervo prefer the Finnish:-) Bubo: Vi tar det en annan gång.

I emailed my Scottish friend who's been living, working & learning Swedish in Sweden for a couple of years to ask about this story. He's not an orienteer, but lived with 2 of us orienteers for several years. He says "Orienteering does seem much more prominent here, details of events are in the newspapers and I think there's some TV coverage too (although I seldom watch TV). In Sweden it's illegal to buy the services of a prostitute but the prostitute isn't committing an offence. This law is endlessly debated here, particularly in the run up to the election on Sunday. It's also quite noticeable that even the worse parts of the Swedish press (like Metro) don't publish the names of people accused of a crime."
He didn't comment on the chantarelles, though
