Thanks to Swampfox for a wonderful 4 days (for me) of Laramie orienteering. It's amazing that one person is able to offer up such a great experience basically single-handedly. He also managed to make sure we got a small dose of Laramie-like weather by the end of the weekend. ;-)
Laramie Daze was a blast! :-)
I couldn't make it this year, in fact I've only been twice in the last ten years, but both of those times were indeed a blast. And I'll echo Cristina that it is totally amazing that Swampfox puts on these events nearly by himself. I greatly appreciate him doing this for the orienteering community, in such nice venues for orienteering, and I resolve to do whatever I can to actually attend the next one!
Thank you so much for a wonderful 3 day weekend of orienteering. It was so nice to get out on some different terrain and with such great courses. We are all so grateful you put the meet on. Again wonderful job!
8 daze of exceptional terrain and 12 excellent courses ... a fun o-time indeed. Many many thanks to the exceptionally excellent Swampfox!
8 cheers for the Swampfox! A delightful event! I still have yet to see a badger, though!
A most relaxing and fun time. THANKS.
Also enjoyed camping at the Day 1 start with a great group of orienteerers.
Agree with j-man.
Any chance of moving the event back to its old traditional date, earlier in August? I had a good record going of not missing a Laramie event since their inception, but I am a school teacher, and absolutely cannot take a vacation from work the week before Labor Day. But a couple of weeks earlier in August I will absolutely be there.
Stevegregg -- I'm not sure if Swampfox has made any final decisions yet, but there has been some talk between RMOC and LROC about moving the 2011 Laramie Daze dates to be a few days after the Colorado ROGAINE scheduled for 8/20 - 8/21/2011. So, Laramie Daze would start the following Wednesday, 8/24/2011, to allow ROGAINERs a few days to recover and to travel from Westcliffe, CO, to Laramie, WY.
Bbrooke is correct about the dates that look most likely for next year, and for the reason she gives.
And, in general, I have come to believe that late August - early September marks the most prime period for orienteering in the Laramie Range. The weather is optimum then, and seed season is well past prime by that time.
And are the chances for Laramie-grade winds the same?
That's critical information.
They are reduced, unfortunately. However, Laramie grade windows are possible at any point in the calendar, even if they are more typical during the winter months.
If you want Laramie-grade winds, you need to walk across the Tie City parking lot, in January, after a day of skiing. One time, the winds were so strong, they blew a truck out of the parking lot.
What about the possibility of Laramie Daze being BEFORE the Colo Rogaine to allow some high altitude training (and also students who start in late August)?
I don't think the schedule works so well to have Laramie Daze right in front of the rogaine.
