The running seems to be much much faster than the skiing. I really wanted to do something similar for Saturday's course... I guess the skate lesson was probably better than re-running the ski-o though
It SEEMS faster, but the downhills and flats are really fast on skis, if you have even average ability. Big gains could be made if going straight through the woods was a much shorter route, but that wasn't true on these courses.
I think you'll really like skate skiing once you get the hang of it.
You should think about getting some skate only skis, good sales this time of year. I can mount the bindings for you.
I think Mike would have been really upset if there were people running on his trails Saturday... even in low snow, groomers don't like walkers/runners.
Jeff I'm surprised at how close to my ski speed you were when running (I skied it in 19min) - were you pushing hard on the hills or just running consistently? It would seem to me that skis would be way faster on a hilly course, since they glide...
I'd say for me, I am a bit faster uphill on foot. At Ken's I went straight 3 times which may have been faster..
Know any skate ski sales going on?
I don't know of any used skis coming available, but usually the online retailers try to get rid of stuff at the end of the season. Akers-ski.com,
reliableracing.com,
gearwest.com,
skinnyski.com... there are more too, just google for skate skis and stuff will come up.
