A Yukon Orienteering Association junior, Dahria Beatty has just qualified for Junior Worlds in cross country skiing. More on that on my blog

She is a strong candidate to run at JWOC this summer too.
I know it is not that uncommon in Scandinavia, but I was wondering if any North American orienteers have gone to worlds for orienteering and a different sport as well. Hillary Saeger going for rowing springs to mind.

Hillary went to WOC 2006-08, in addition to the rowing worlds last year.

I know one guy in Ottawa who in the 70's participated in five orienteering WOC's and then between 1992 and 2006 in four triathlon world champs. (However the tri's were in the age class category.)
Best wishes to Dahria. Her achievement shows great commitment and talent.

Congrats to Dahria!

Gord did that person you are referring to have an AP name that rhymed with hordgun? Congrats Gord! I'll never forget that training camp you coached me at back in the late 70's.

While not World Championships what always impressed me the most was the late Keith French's athletic resume. He was a Canadian age group champion at one time in orienteering, cross country running, steeple chase, ski-orienteering and softball. Impressive.

Keith French was a world class gentleman and teacher way too soon taken from us.

Actually my dad would correct you to say fastpitch and not softball. I inherited the strong glove, but sadly the poor throwing arm too.

Would a Mike Fellows or Oivind Naess have gone to World Juniors Cross-Country? Maybe a Uni Games?

What about one of the Thunder Bay Orienteers and skiing?

And come to think of it, I'm not sure if Brent has ever met a girl named Kirsten Watt. Did she go to World Jrs in Biathlon as well as Orienteering?

An update on Dahria at World Junior Cross Country Skiing. She placed 25th in the 5km Classic. An amazing result. Especially given she is born in 1994 and has another 4 years of eligibility.
