I arrive in Seattle on 2 January and will be attending a conference downtown. Is there an O competition in the region on 3 January? Also any suggestions on trail running or permanent O courses in the region would be much appreciated.

Visit http://www.cascadeoc.org/ for permanent O courses in the region. Unfortunately there isn't a meet on 3 Jan. Discovery Park in Seattle is one of my favorite places to run and you can run over the locks to Golden Gardens park to add some distance. If the tide is low you can continue along the beach to Carkeek park. Cougar and Tiger mtns are good for trail running, but require longer drives. Seattle Running Co. http://www.seattlerunningcompany.com/ can hook you up with info. If you're interested in taking the ferry to do some running I can provide advice on Kitsap trails, just let me know. There are many people on AP that can provide you more info on the Seattle area as well. Maybe even join you for a run. Happy trails,

In case you're arriving early in the morning on Saturday, January 2: there will be an informal gathering of several dozen trail running friends here, and a 50k trail run (two 25k loops) will commence at 8am. I plan to run my usual one loop.

Seattle Running Co. usually organizes longish group trail runs on Sundays.
