So has it been in the past; so it shall likely be as long as USOF endures.

Yes, we'll get that confirmation out with the end of year news. The three events on July 2-4 would be the included events.

Incorporating these events into the rankings is a bit of a chore with some of the Canadian classes which run one course in Canada, but would be two on different courses in the US.

Example - M17-20 is one course in Canada, but in the US, it is Green (17-18) and Red (19-20). W17-20 is Brown (17-18) and Green (19-20). And, M45-54 is Red (45-49) and Green (50-54). When I get the results, these individuals need to be divided up and ranked with the courses they would run in the US. However, some people will want to be ranked on a different course then their age implies. Example - a 17 year old may want the Red M-20 ranking, not the Green M-18 ranking. So, that person needs to notify me before the event as to which US class they want to be ranked under.

and Whistler Barebones?

AZ:
FYI: Barebones will be using the same categories as the NAOCs.

For sure the Brandywine middle distance (WRE) should be, if it isn't too much work. The other Western Canadian Champs events too (Long at Lost Lake and Sprint in Whistler Village). The race on top of Whistler Mountain will be a sprint/middle hybrid and slightly less "serious" a race.

Yeah, yeah - I know. This is more information than is on the website. I promise the website will be updated by the end of the month.

So, AZ, you're suggesting/requesting that the USOF rankings committee also consider including in the USOF rankings these three Canadian events (the three which constitute the Western Canadian Champs)?
* Long - Lost Lake
* Sprint - Whistler Village
* Middle - Brandywine (WRE)

Hammer:
Here in southern Ontario most of the "A" meets we race in are in the U.S. Lots of high quality races in upstate NY (and much cheaper than racing in other parts of Canada). So many of our club members get an 'unofficial' US Ranking but there is no similar system for age groupers in Canada. Its a pity that given the relatively few Canadian "A" meets that a little bit of tweaking between USOF and COF course systems couldn't lead to a Continental course structure and ranking system. Could make for some great rivalries in all age categories cross border and perhaps some fun team or club competitions too. So while we're at it... GLOF 2010 will include a sprint, middle and long next October. All three races are a 70 minute drive from the U.S. border. Can we request the USOF ranking committee consider us as well :-)

Yes, hammer, someone has already emailed me requesting that the 2010 GLOF be included. We'll include it in the considerations. :)

Those three races are the most suitable to be included in the ratings. I was really just providing additional information regarding jingo6390's posting that I anticipated the committee would need. But, yes, I would request that those three races be considered, taking into account the difficulties of the class assignments.

I don't want to hijack this but....
I would have gotten rid of the titles A, B, C class meets years ago for Orienteering in Canada and adopted the ski/bike classifications of:
Nor-AM (or Continental) Cups (WRE)
Canada Cups (A meets)
Provincial Cups (B meet)
Training / Club Time Trial (C meet)

I would much rather tell people I'm flying across the country to attend a Canada Cup than an A Meet; couldn't hurt in talking to sponsors as well.

Good ideas, Hammer and Nev-Monster. The common Can-US course/class structure was tried some years ago and resulted in the systems geting further apart, if anything. Maybe it's time to reconsider, but some will be attached to the way things are, so I doubt there's the political will.

Barebones You've come a long way baby from a no-frills, laid back event to the Western Canadian Championships.
Those bones have grown a lot of beef!
But while you are looking to extend the 'ranking files' northward you should consider the 2010 Canadian Championships in Ottawa next August. At least one of the events will be a WRE.

Whoa..some interesting ideas are coming out here. Maybe a Canada - US Summit at the NAOC's should be in order to discuss ideas on how we could be better aligned in areas such as: ranking, courses and classes, an even naming. Nev-Monster, I like the Canada Cup idea for Canadian meets.
