Hey Jeff,
Ok, the basemap is ready. I put some notes on the map itself. Should be self-explanatory, but let me know if anything is unclear. The OCAD file is ocad6. Grab all of these .zip files:

The OCAD file contains the basemap and notes. All of the other files are zipped .bmp templates to be used with the basemap for adding additional detail (from the lidar and photos). All of the .bmp files are 1m/pix and should be loaded as templates at 254 DPI. There are grids in the OCAD file for alignment - shift only...you should not need to stretch these. The original orthophotos from MassGIS were 0.5m/pix, but the jpeg compression errors make that extra res useless. I cut them back to 1m/pix to make them "manageable" in OCAD. I also contrast enhanced them myself, since I didn't especially like the contrast enhanced ones provided by MassGIS.
I added a few features by hand from the lidar unsharp templates. Look in the area near last year's BHT start for an example of how I identify clifs and roads in the unsharp lidar tiles (thats in tile bluehills_unsharp_43.bmp). Note that the water features on the basemap are from the MassGIS wetlands vector set. They are generally not very good, but do give an idea of what areas are wet. It would be best to add the water features you can see using the orthos and/or unsharps. The streams are likely to be very unreliable indeed, and are tough to see in this particular dataset. The filedchecker will have some work to do, but with enough other solid features placed to bootstrap it shouldn't be too bad. I also put in a couple of MA State Plane coordinate reference points, in case anyone wants to play with GPS.
I'd like to try aligning the existing OCAD map to this basemap. If you can e-mail me a copy of that I'll give it a shot.
