Discussion: O' possibilities in Finland?

I'm wondering if any of our Finnish-speaking readers might be able to help -- are any O' events scheduled in the Helsinki area either on Wednesday June 13 or Monday June 18. I remember being in Helsinki about 25 years ago and there seemed to be events almost every evening. I don't know if that is still the case.

Any info (and/or a link to a website that had info in English or Swedish) would be appreciated. Looking for something to round out the Jukola (and Forssa Games) trip. I'm getting there Wednesday, then coming back Tuesday with Kenny and Ross.

Training events before SuuntoGames:
http://www.helsinginsuunnistajat.fi/index.php?opti...

Here is Uusimaa region (area around Helsinki) O-calendar (in Finnish):
http://www.suunnistavauusimaa.fi/kunto/kalenteri/0...

Possible ones are at least these:
June 13. Kalajärvi
June 14. Vaakkoi
(June 17-18. Jukola)
June 19. (Monday) Laakson ratsastusstadion, this is the map Hammer visited last winter, map http://www.jukola.com/jukola/kartat/nj2003_nj_7.gi...

The other events are a bit further away from Helsinki (>40 minutes drive from Helsinki).

If you tell a bit more what you are looking for (terrain, map, location) I may be able to recommend something.

I get to Helsinki Wednesday afternoon the 14th, I'm just looking for something Wednesday afternoon/evening to get some exercise, so much the better if it's orienteering. I'll have a car, so getting someplace from the airport is not a problem, it's just finding out where to go. So where/what time is Vaakkoi?

Thursday I pick up Mikell and William (and Claire) at the airport and we zip over to Forssa for the Forssa Games, then Friday over to Salo to join up with the rest of the CSU team (#673). After that, Kenny, Ross and I are not leaving until Tuesday (it was a lot cheaper), some sort of orienteering on Monday seems to be called for (and maybe a round of golf too?). Again, have a car, so if there are a couple of places to choose from, the place with the more interesting orienteering might be preferable.

Thanks for your help. I can manage in several languages, but not at all with Finnish.

Locations:
Kalajärvi: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=2...

Vaakkoi: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=2...

Kattilajärvi: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=2...

Laakso: http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=2...

At Vaakkoi yoyu can go to forest 16.30-18.30 and finish will be closed at 20:00.

Also you can go to "Suunnistajan Kauppa", O-shop at Museokatu 34, Helsinki, and buy Kattilajärvi (June 12.) training event maps. Helsingin Suunistajat keep paper controls seven days in forest after each event and you can buy event maps with courses there. Shop location: http://www.suunnistajankauppa.fi/helsinki.htm and http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki.html?x=2...

Here is International O-event Suunto Games June 10-11. You could try to get some maps and go there before or after Jukola. There will be no controls, but map is up to date (but all too detailed, you need microscope there). I think they will have also those Suunto Games maps for sale at Suunistajan Kauppa.

Vaakkoi is nice area (I don't know if there is any maps online), but Kattilajärvi is bit better (better runnability).
Here is old maps of Kattilajärvi - Pirttimäki (SuuntoGames 2006) - Brobacka: http://www.kokkens.fi/reitit/04_HS/04_FL_kevat/Hal...

EDIT:
If prefer area east from Helsinki, maps 1, 2 and 3 are also quite nice: http://www.pihkaniskat.fi/pihkarta.htm
online example: http://www.kokkens.fi/reitit/04_FIN5/kartat/22.jpg
But if you like to get one of these, you can ask Pihkanskat to take some maps for you to Jukola, or you can buy maps from

Marja Auroma / Vantaan Liikuntayhdistys ry
(09) 8392 4223 or 040 505 8730
Kielotie 20 C, 01300 Vantaa
Open 8:15 - 16:00
