I'd like to do the "World's Hardest Night-O" at Pawtuckaway this coming weekend, but don't have a working lamp. Is there anyone going who can lend me one?
You need two. But the second one doesn't have to be anything special, just something to get you out of the woods if you run into a tree and smash your primary.
(Have you rememebered to email the course setter to reserve a map?)
would that be you JJ? I am a strong maybe.
So it was just pointed out to me that my charger for my Silva headlamp doesn't actually work in the US, since it needs 230V input. Is there someone out there who has either a charger that they can bring to Pawtuckaway (is there electricity there?) or another lamp that can be lent out? Furthermore, Marie Arnesson is in the exact same situation, so it seems like we are both in danger of missing the night-O.
Can't you get a transformer (or whatever it's called), so you can still charge it over here?
Wouldn't using a light at Pawtuckaway make it too easy, and take away all the fun and challenge?
and it works on curling irons too. bonus!
Thanks guys. Just got one online. Should be here in a week.
Thanks for your help people!
Boris > I know you just ordered one , but there is a Radio Shack just down the road (Boston Post Rd, Orange) from where I work and they have these converters in stock.
Marie>If you get one today, we can definitely charge at least one lamp at Pawtuckaway!
Assuming you can find an electric outlet there.
feet>I was told there is one.
There is power in the pavilion, though there might be some competetion for access to it. There's also another pavilion across the way (the place that we used a few years ago) that has more outlets, and you could probably plug in something unnoticed over there, if the outlets are turned on.
If I can find something here at work that will boost voltage to 230, I'll bring it, but don't hold your breath. I'll post a note if I find anything.
Yes, I'm the course setter, Joe. At the moment there are 17 people signed up, and 24 maps printed out. I'm not planning to print more maps unless I get a sudden surge of entries. The remaining slots are first-come, first served at the registration table.
Also, depending on how it's designed, your lamp charger may still work on 110V. Unlikely to hurt anything if you ry.
I tried and failed, hence the panic.
It amazes me how the gut response to the "crisis" is to surf the web and then order one online, delivery in a week. I can't believe there's not one available within a mile of you, 5 miles at most (there are 3 Radio Shacks in New Haven, plus who knows how many other electronics stores). I would be surprised if you couldn't have your hands on one within 30 minutes, and be happily charging away this afternoon.
If you have a stove or dryer, those are usually 220v. Then get to the plug and you are set.
There are outlets in all the bathrooms as well.
Hey everyone with a battery like Ross has (and I think is the same as Boris'), 6volt, 9Ahour.
I have Ross' charger which will work from a car battery (it does not presently work from AC).
I will bring it.
I am presently charging Ross battery with it (which I have done before so I know it works).
Not sure of the charge time though.
Can post back later when this one alarms it is charged.
