As anyone who has run over the years in Harriman knows, the explosive growth of Blueberry bushes has rendered some previously pristine areas of the park a real pain to run in. Now comes news of a virus on the loose that kills blueberry bushes

Now, I am not one to promote the introduction of pathogens into the environment and I certainly empathize with Blueberry farmers and the potential for financial loss. Still it's hard not to let the mind wander a bit and imagine what the Harriman woods would be like if those little bugs invaded the park. Hmmm. HMMMM!!!

Doesn't sound like it knocks the bushes down, it just whacks the flowers and leaves for a couple of years.

Now, if somebody were to discover a laurel weevil...

good point about the virus. Running in Harriman in the winter is much easier because the blueberry bushes dont have leaves. So maybe this virus is not so bad if it beats up the blueberry population for a couple of years. Anyone going to Michigan and interested in bringing back a sample? :-)

Go to Michigan now, then run the Highlander without washing your shoes.

Strategically placing controls in the middle of blueberry bush fields may also help.

On the way back from Harriman, please consider a jog through Batsto.
